Shanghai at Dusk from over the Bund

If you’re a Passport Member then today you get to see the creation of this fun panorama from Shanghai. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise!

Shanghai Surprise

This is made out of 9 different photos that I stitched together in Photoshop. I was trying to get an “angle” on Shanghai that no one has ever seen before, so I flew it out over the Bund to get this angle.

Daily Photo – Shanghai at Dusk from over the Bund

I’m pretty sure flying a drone in China is illegal. I mostly think this because I was arrested a few years earlier for doing it. But I figured, hey, if I can talk myself out of Chinese prison once, I can do it twice, right? This is how I think… anyway, when I went to launch this down by the coast, I saw about three other Chinese dudes launching their own quadcopters. This only emboldened me!

Behind the Scenes with a TRIPP creation

Tripp

If you’re a Passport Member then you can see some really radical new projects I’m working on with Tripp.com. Here’s a video from their website that describes a bit of what they are about.

First Official Fractal

Well, I have a lot of these… But this is the first fully mastered version along with music from Sam Wave. Wait till you see it in 360 VR!

Behind the Scenes with a TRIPP creation

I am not exactly sure how I got off on this crazy fractal tangent. It mostly started from having an epic acid trip that had extra layers thanks to adventures into the DMT zone. Either way, it started me down this path to try to recreate some beautiful visions.

Shooting video with 8K cameras attached to helicopters in New Zealand!

Part 1 Behind the Scenes of our Helicopter ride!

I recorded some fun 360 behind-the-scenes videos while on a helicopter adventure with my friend Sofia Jin. We went up with Choppy and Over The Top Helicopters to make some new videos and get a ton of photos. We actually took up two helicopters because one of them had the first 8K setup – specifically, the Shotover P1 MK ll dedicated 8K gimbal with a Red Monstro camera and Angenieux 36/435 zoom lens. We used it for helicopter-to-helicopter shooting. Anyway, this Part 1 video is free… and today is “Passport Sunday,” which is the day where I always release a new video to Passport Members on the blog. So yeah, if you’ve joined up, then you can see Part 2 today also. I’ll put the link in the comments.

Click here to join Passport and get access to the 2nd part and 200 other behind the scenes and tip videos as well as all of my tutorials and more!

More 360 fun from the Southern Alps!

And here is Part 2 of the video where you can see more about all the specifics of the setup! 🙂 We’re still working on the final 8k video shot from the Shotover P1 MK ll dedicated 8K gimbal with a Red Monstro camera and Angenieux 36/435 zoom lens, and will share it first to Passport Members as soon as we have it!

If your connection can handle it, bump the resolution up to 4K using the cog icon and remember you can drag the video around to look in different directions. 🙂

Daily Photo – The Dappled Pond

Queenstown Gardens has a lifetime’s worth of photos every Autumn. I should actually go there more often, and not just in the Autumn. It’s not actually that far from me, but I tend to not drive into Queenstown very often…The parking is terrible down there and it’s barely worth the drive. However, since the tourism bust, it’s quite a bit easier to find a place!

Passport Sunday Party

In today’s Passport Sunday, you’ll see a fun edit of today’s daily photo from Tokyo!

Japanese Girls in the Wild

I make a few inappropriate references in today’s Passport Sunday video, so I don’t apologize for that. You’ll see how this edit does a little bit more of an extreme HDR illustrative look. Enjoy!

Daily Photo – Above the Starbucks

This is a fun tableau vivant from an evening scene in Tokyo. I wander around most of the day with my camera trying to find interesting slices of life here and there. This particular spot is right by the Starbucks in Harajuku.

On the Launch Pad

Welcome to Passport Sunday!

Today you’ll see the fun edit of today’s photo of the Space Shuttle on the launchpad at night. I mean, that is, if you are one of our awesome Passport Members!

Processing On the Launch Pad

Here’s another fun edit where I made it extra moody. I also heavily darkened some of the areas that were ugly or distracting. Enjoy!

Daily Photo – On the Launch Pad

I almost called this On the Pad, but that didn’t ring quite right. I noticed that while I was editing this photo that I wasn’t using a tripod. I’m not sure why this is. I’m sure I had one with me, but I took it so long ago that I forgot. Maybe I raised it way over my head to minimize the fence. I mean, honestly, who knows.

The Barcelona Airport

Passport Sunday How-to!

Thanks again to all you awesome Passport Members!

Today you’ll get to see a fairly radical edit and how I pushed this airport photo into an unexpected direction. Enjoy!

Editing of the Barcelona Airport Shot

I decided to go quite high-key with this one and ramp up the reflection aspect of the photo. There are a few other tiny little tricks I did in here that you can learn for your photos as well!

Daily Photo – The Barcelona Airport

Man, I wish all airports had these super-reflective floors. Wouldn’t that be amazing? It’s not like I’m spending much time in airports any more… but maybe while no one is in them, it would be cool if all airports swapped out their floors for mirrors.

Daily Photo – After the Bullfight

As I say in the video below, I think bullfighting is one of the more inhumane sports in the world for sure. I certainly don’t endorse it with sharing this photo… but, hey, I was there. And it was kind of a cool visual palette, so I took a photo!

Cycling in London

A Fun Edit for today’s Passport Sunday!

This was quite a fun one to edit because of all the movement. If you’re a Passport Sunday member, then you get full access to see the edit!

London Cycle

This one was a little tricky because of all the movement involved. Most of the technique is in prep by choosing which photo you think is the best as a center of action.

Daily Photo – Cycling in London

I happened to be in London on a non-dreary day. With the sunset going crazy I decided that I should get out there and shoot as much as possible. I tend to go to the busier areas because there’s a lot more activity and options, as you can see in today’s photo! If you’re a passport member, then you can see a behind-the-scenes edit of the photo below!
