Walking home in Sanya

Do you follow me on Instagram?

I may be biased but I totally think you should follow me if you don’t already. Just about now I’ll be on my way back from Burning Man so you get to see loads of random live videos from even more random locations along the way via the Instagram Stories feature. Airport bathrooms, Ubers, inside my suitcase, nothing is off limits! Check it out.

Daily Photo – Walking home in Sanya

Sanya was one of the more unique places I’ve ever visited. It’s on an island off the coast of China and it’s one of the top destinations for middle-and-upper class Chinese businessmen and politicians that want a bit of a tropical vacation. Even though there are tons of beaches, the Chinese don’t really seem to be “beachy” kind of people. They seem to mostly hang around the pool that happens to be right beside a perfectly awesome beach! These are some of the little villas I was staying in at the Ritz-Carlton there.

My First Photo of Toronto

Passport Sunday! Toronto Photo Processing

Today, if you’re a Passport Member, you get to see the edit of one of my newest photos of Toronto that I took a few weeks ago. Remember, every Sunday, a new Passport Video for you! 🙂

Toronto Skyline Processing

This is a really cool editing video where you get to see my process for editing this photo of the stunning Toronto skyline. I decided to edit one where the plane was taking off to add a bit of flair to the final shot.

Daily Photo – My First Photo of Toronto

I took this one all the way back in 2013 when I went to Toronto to speak at a travel blogger convention. It was a really fun event, and after the talk, we all went over to Centre Island to take photos of the city. It was a stormy night, as you can see, but I managed to get in a pretty decent photo!

The Endless Forests of Malaysia

Fred the Dolphin

Today’s Podcast is a really fun walk with Fred Newman while we were staying at an awesome ranch in Montana. How do I describe this guy? He’s the sort of man that would not like any sort of description, I believe! But, in short, he’s one of the most amazing sound-effects and voice guys in the world. He’s very respected and you’ve probably heard his voice in everything from Doug to Men in Black to A Prairie Home Companion. From Wikipedia, regarding the latter, “In an audience favorite feature of the program, Keillor tells an apparently impromptu story that is funny because it requires Newman to strain to supply rapid-fire sound effects for unusual occurrences and obscure animals.”

Or if the audio version is more to your liking…

Daily Photo – The Endless Forests of Malaysia

One day we took a boat out to visit some floating markets on these winding rivers in Langkawai. After you get up high, you get a great perspective on how heavily forested (jungled? is that a word? Jungly?) this island is. It reminds me a lot of Vietnam or Cambodia in a way…

The Snowy Mountain town of Shirakawa-go

You can create some awesomely large files with the new Mavic 2 Zoom and its panorama mode. Here’s a little video about how I process a 9 photo pano from it…

Daily Photo – The Snowy Mountain town of Shirakawa-go

Right after I arrived (which took 3 trains and 2 busses with no English!), I immediately launched the drone to get some photos from above. I knew it was a small town, but I was kind of lost… I sometimes do this as soon as I get into town so that I can get a sense of it. It turns out that it was small enough for me to visit every little street and every little farmhouse.

Daily Photo – The Impossible Library

Here’s one of the new pieces from Series 2 of the fine art called The Impossible Library. We decided to make these a little smaller to fit on the walls of regular people! Haha… Series 1 has been doing great and many are sold out, but not everyone has a ton of room to hang pieces that can be 6 to 10 feet wide.

The Ancient Roman Cistern under Istanbul

PSA: How to Escape from Quicksand!

This looks rather handy… I’ve only been in quicksand once… but it never quite got to knee-level… so I was lucky. If I had seen this first, I would have been less panicked! 🙂

Daily Photo – The Ancient Roman Cistern under Istanbul

If you make it to this city, don’t miss this spot! They didn’t let me take a tripod in there, so I had to get pretty inventive when it came to securing the camera. Sometimes I would just jam it up against one of the columns… and that’s what I did here! The only way I could get it stable was in this off-center way, but decided it looked pretty cool!

Beautiful Waterfall in Kyoto

Fun article about the Americas Tour

I gave a ton of interviews on the road, and here is one of my favorites that I did in Canada.

Daily Photo – Beautiful Waterfall in Kyoto

Kyoto must have at least 100 different perfect little parks with temples. Each morning, we would visit a different one… Since I’m the kind of guy that is already into meditation, I found them to be perfect little places to explore. Japanese people are largely Shinto, which means basically they find “god” in nature… the more time they spend in nature, the closer to god they feel.

Exploring Istanbul

Check out the audio version of my podcast…

I’ve now got 9 episodes up on your favorite podcasting platform… (iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify or in some regions Google Play).

Daily Photo – Exploring Istanbul

I only had 48 hours there, so I did my best to make the most of it. One great thing about the city is there are several rooftop restaurants, so it’s always easy to get multiple views of the Hagia Sophia. I knew a lot about the Hagia Sophia ahead of time thanks to how many times I had built it while playing Civilization!

Montreal from the Hilltop

More Montreal Behind-the-Scenes for Canada

Last week, Passport Members got to see the 360 video that I took up here while preparing to take the photo. Today, the actual processing in Aurora HDR has been unlocked! I hope you enjoy!

Montreal Downtown Processing

Today, you get to see my process one of the final photos that I shot during my 360 video session from last week’s Passport Sunday. I really like the way this photo turned out and I hope you enjoy watching the process! 🙂

Daily Photo – Montreal from the Hilltop

This spot reminded me a lot of The Peak in Hong Kong, except with about 10,000 less people! If you saw last week’s video, then you can see how easy it was to belly up to the bar to get a clean shot. Unlike China, you’re not constantly getting elbowed in the ribs by rather rude people. In Canada, it’s the total opposite. If someone even gets remotely close to you, they immediately utter a heartfelt apology!

Snowy Fantasyland in Japan

Podcast Saturday!

Before Passport Sunday, it’s Podcast Saturday again…

Season 8 Episode 1 of “Walk n’ Talk with Trey” This Episode: “Patrick Crawshaw and the language of Interior Design”

I was up in the Bay of Islands and stayed at this incredible place called Donkey Bay ( https://www.donkeybayinn.co.nz/ ). I was invited there by my friend David Maxwell who runs https://www.eighthwonder.travel/ . It just so happens that his half-brother, Patrick Crawshaw did the interior design for this unique place!

Trailer for 7 Days in Hell

This is, by far, my favorite sports mockumentary!

Daily Photo – Snowy Fantasyland in Japan

I slept inside one of these old farmhouses for a few nights. They look very cozy, don’t they? Well, let me assure you… they were absolutely freezing! The only warm room was the dining room in the middle where they made my dinner, but when I went back to my little room, it was way below freezing. I had about 30 seconds to get onto my futon under a blanket before I froze to death. The worst thing was waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, which was quite a long way away!
