Daily Photo – the fog you can only see through from above
Yosemite is a wonderful place for photography, and it’s one of those places that is filled with an intimidating and rich photographic history. I don’t even understand how Ansel Adams did it back in the day; but I have a sense of it, I suppose. So this is un-Yosemite in a way. I aimed away from Yosemite, to all the little mountains that walk up to the great park, and I embraced all the color that I felt flowing inwards.
Aiming to launch the new TreyRatcliff.com towards the end of next week… can it be achieved? I hope so! In the meantime, here’s one of the fine art images from the current site.
A HUGE thanks again to those of you that signed up for Passport! Today, I have another video where I show a breakdown of how today’s photo came to be. Enjoy!
Yosemite in Aurora
Enjoy this video… it shows how I use layers in Aurora! 🙂
I took this on New Year’s Morning, several years ago when we had a fun photo walk in Yosemite. You all know I hate waking up early, but I was more than happy to arrive at this beautiful spot. All in all, I still recommend Yellowstone over Yosemite, but there are a few amazing spots in Yosemite you gotta hit! 🙂
Anyone else into this show? Curtis recommended it to me, and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve always liked Kevin Spacey. Give it a whirl if you’re looking for a new series.
Daily Photo – The Silver View at Yosemite
I’ve been experimenting with a new post-processing technique. Let me see if I can explain it.
I process the photo using my usual steps, which, I suppose, are nothing but usual. But if you’ve seen the new HDR Tutorial, then you know the kind of stuff I do. But then, at the end, I run the final photo through Silver Efex Pro. I then take that layer and change the blend mode to either Hardlight or Overlay. That is what gives the kind of effect you see here.
I go to Pinterest almost every single day to pin a few things. I think my ratio there is I pin about 20% my own work and re-pin 80% other work. I know lots of people pin here too! If you like, drop your Pinterest page link below so others can find you ! 🙂
Daily Photo – Trees in Yosemite
I’m not really an “expert” on Yosemite by any means! I’ve only been there once, and I know there are many photographers that have been there 5 or 10 or more times! I spent most of my time driving around the main roads and going off on little mini-hikes. But I didn’t really know the best places to go… so I would hike along little creeks and get shots like this.
I remember I did a little walk to a place called “Mirror Lake” or something. It sounded so awesome from the name! But then I got there, and it was just a puddle of ice. I felt ripped off! They should change the name of it every hour depending on what it currently looks like. There’s no way I would have walked to “Dirty Ice Ugly Lake”.
If so, add your link below so others can find you! 🙂
Upgraded my Tumblr Page
I decided to put a little more love into my weak Tumblr effort. I actually really like Tumblr and I see a lot of beautiful things there, at least from the people that I follow currently.
Someone already had the name “Stuckincustoms” (Arg!) so I used TreyRatcliffPhotos.tumblr.com. Enjoy! And thank you to former Texan Annie Werner for the encouragement and help! 🙂
Daily Photo – Walking in Yosemite
Here’s a photo from a walk along this beautiful little path in Yosemite. It looks very serene and welcoming, yes? Well it is! I was sad I only got to spend one day here in the forest… I’d like to go back. Actually, I’d really like to get to Yosemite when it is snowing. I bet there are a thousand interesting photos all over the place… but now, by the time out I find out it is snowing, it will take me too long to get over there! 🙁
I took this one during the crazy photowalk there… we had so much fun!
In this video below, Robert Scoble got an early look at the Stuck On Earth ( Free! www.stuckonearthapp.com ) when it launched. The Good news is that we’ve finally begun development on the Android version. Many of you know that I’m an avid Android user and I love my Nexus phone and Nexus tablet! 🙂
I’m soooo excited about the Android version. When will it be done? When it’s done!
Daily Photo – Reflections in Yosemite
I’m currently with Karen Hutton and many other people in New Zealand. One of my previous trips with Karen was to this very place! We jumped around mud bank after mud bank until we found a clean reflection. It was quite cold… I think we were both thinking of getting back inside for something warm to drink!
Well this one is kind of crazy. I checked my YouTube stats for the first time ever. I don’t add a lot of videos, but the ones I add are quite long. Anyway, this stat shows almost 10 million minutes of my videos have been watched – that is crazy! I don’t think I’m THAT entertaining on video… honestly… I’m not like, say, Flavor Flav or anything…
What Prints Hang in My Home?
I got this question the other day, so I thought I’d list them out here. I’m always changing them out… but here are some of my favorites, including the new one from Paris below, which I just had printed here in Queenstown at WePrint.
Our Prints page has more details. But you can order the Artist Proof series on metal. Each of those is in a limited quantity of 50, and each one is individually signed by me.
Anyway, here are a few of the prints that I have chosen to hang in my home:
Daily Photo – The Amazing Eiffel Tower in Romantic Paris
I shot this just recently with Tom Anderson. We almost didn’t leave the hotel because it was so stormy, but we had been watching the clouds all day. We started out with Miss Aniela at the Paris Opera before exploring the rest of the city. Sunset comes early here around this time of the year (about 5 PM or so), and it always sneaks up on us.
Some of the best sunsets come right after storms… so it’s always worth a little adventure if you don’t mind getting a little wet…
Thanks everyone for the follows over on Pinterest! Here is one of my favorites Inspirational Boards that you may enjoy… Who are some of your favorite people to follow? When you look at my boards, you can see who I follow and re-pin the most… seems to be a lot of people from France that I follow I think!
Old-Timey Photographers
I always think about those old-timey guys and how they used to have to carry around those giant cameras and go through all the trouble. I wonder if anyone will ever think of me like this… lugging around my big Nikon and a giant computer to process the photos… yes, I suppose they will. Or, hopefully my future self will think that about my past self.
Daily Photo – Icy Tones in Yosemite
We had a great time at the event at Yosemite. I don’t do many of those, you know – those extended trips with big groups of people – but it was a lot of fun!
I think I was out in this area with Karen Hutton, Thomas Hawk, and Robert Scoble. It was a wonderful scene of lines and strange colors…
