Cologne – Stuck in Customs

Cologne, Germany

I walked into this amazing cathedral and was amazed to see this surrealist scene. On a huge screen, they were showing deep views of the universe while atmospheric Phillip Glass music droned heavily, bouncing and echoing around the stone. People would sit in the pews and just watch slow animations of the universe unfolding. There were priests who sat around the outside edges of the cathedral to answer any questions that people might have and I thought this was pretty great to see, as often there is a disconnect between religion and science. Of course, some switched-on theologians know that it is all the same thing, from a single source. This cathedral took centuries to finish and was started back in the good ol’ days of 1248.

Inside the Cologne Cathedral

Hilarious video with terrible voice acting

Look at these “highlights” – haha I could not stop laughing.

Daily Photo – Inside the Cologne Cathedral

I was so surprised to walk into this cathedral at night and see this! They were showing images from deep space and playing all this crazy minimalist music… something like Phillip Glass. I sat in here for about half an hour just kind of staring at this giant movie screen. It’s definitely one of my best church experiences! πŸ™‚

The Universe In Cologne

Daily Photo – Bats in the Belfry in Cologne

Those are bats, yes? We all sat there staring up for eons wondering if they were bats. I think they are. I wouldn’t exactly say I’m an expert in flying reptiles. I’m really much more of an armchair-flying-reptile expert. And, from my hypothetical armchair, they are most certainly bats.

The Universe in Cologne

Speaking of Macphun

Don’t forget to grab the new Aurora HDR 2017 that we co-developed with Macphun and these two ladies in the photo below!

Daily Photo – The Universe in Cologne

While we were in Cologne for Photokina, we went out with Macphun almost every night. It was Alex and these two gals, Oksana and Julianna. On the last night there, we all wandered over to the amazing Cologne cathedral. When we walked in, we were totally shocked to see a mostly darkened room along with a huge screen playing an animated slideshow of Hubble Telescope images. There were ethereal, surreal sounds of space playing all through the stone walls. All around the outside were priests that you could talk to about the infinity of space and the universe… it was completely eclectic and amazing!

I didn’t have my tripod, so I borrowed one from a random Chinese tourist. Also, I didn’t have my wide-angle – just my 35 prime! So I made a panorama. When I took the tripod back, it turns out that the gentleman subscribes to my newsletter of all things β€” crazy universe!

Camera Bag Stolen in Germany and… New April Lightroom Presets, Live!

April Lightroom Presets, only $2.50 instead of $5

The monthly tradition continues with my Lightroom Presets! I hope you have enjoyed the previous month packs, and here comes a funky-fresh one!

Daily Photo – Amazing Cologne

I loved everything about Cologne… except for my train ride back to Dusseldorf.

My whole camera bag was stolen! Can you believe it? I was distracted and before I knew it, my whole camera bag was swiped in a grab n’ run! What a bummer! I still was holding my tripod and A7r, so I didn’t lose those, luckily. But I did lost an A7ii, two Leica lenses, and a Sony lens. Ouch! Oh well, it’s just stuff… But kind of inconvenient now, you know? Ah well…

I filed out a police report and everything. We’re checking on insurance now to see what was covered… fingers crossed but I have low expectations!
