Hey look, two days, two highlight videos in a row! Here’s highlights from our photo walk in Vienna where the theme was “symmetry.”
Daily Photo – Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien in Austria
How beautiful is this cafe inside the museum? Museums always have nice and fancy cafes, but I’ve never seen one this nice. By the way, you see how the museum name ends in “Wien” – it took me four days of being in Vienna to realise that Wien means Vienna. I also figured out that there is no such language as Austrian. They mostly speak German there… anyway, just goes to prove you can travel all your life and still learn things that are incredibly obvious to other people… always a treat!
When the new Luminar came out with the cool AI Slider, I decided to update my Luminar Review.
Here’s a little snippit from it
See that slider up in the top right – “Accent – AI Filter”? That’s where all the action is at! The first time you load up a photo, you will not see this slider. You have to first select the Quick and Awesome Workspace just above it. This one slider is so handy; in most cases, it’s all you’ll need!
Photowalk Highlights from Budapest!
This was an especially great photo walk! I was surprised when my friend Hans Zimmer and his band came out to join us for the entire event! He’s also on tour in Europe at Hans Zimmer Live and as you can tell from his schedule, he’s working much harder than I am! Anyway, you’ll see a bit of footage from Hans in these clips below.
Daily Photo – There’s Parliament Again
Wow, I’m really loading up the blog with Budapest photos this week. Sorry gang. I don’t know why I went so photo-crazy there. Maybe it was because the tour had ended and I had some spare time to wander and be a true flaneur! Who knows… well the case is probably that the city is so beautiful that you just can’t go wrong… I can’t wait to go back here and have more wanders (and more amazing food that costs 10% what it does anywhere else in the world!).
My friend Rene Smith joined us on the bus for most of the trip. He put together a little Facebook Album with a few fun photos and some commentary!
Daily Photo – Beautiful Budapest
Okay, I’ve already repeated Budapest as a location 2 out of the last 3 days. Maybe it’s because it was one of my favorite new places! We stayed right here in the middle at the Ritz-Carlton (who partnered with us on the tour), and this is a view from when I flew a quadcopter off the roof. This was shot with the Phantom 4 Pro and is a panorama made from 4 different photos. I’m impressed at the low-light capabilities of this beast!
I recommend getting an outside table at Nessun Dorma here in Manirola. This is basically the view from the restaurant! Well, it’s a little bit higher, but more or less… go there and order a bunch of food a spritzer drinks and enjoy several hours of one of the most beautiful views in the world.
Daily Photo – Cinque Terre as Evening Falls
It’s hard to say where my favorite stop was during our 55-day photo tour in Europe. This area of Italy is easily in the top 10, though. I’ve always wanted to visit this place, so we decided to make it happen! There are 5 small towns here embedded into the coastline of Italy. You can hike between all 5 or take a little train that connects all of them. We decided to take the train to cover as much ground as possible. I have a lot more photos to share from the area, but wanted to get the Cinque Terre party started early with this one!
Good Science video on the effects of LSD on the brain
You guys may know I’m a fan of all kinds of experimentation; especially with mind-altering drugs. There’s a lot of misinformation out there… I’ve never had a bad experience, and it’s always been mind-expanding and very inspirational. It’s good to see there’s some more hard science behind it too. Here’s an article from Reason Magazine where they interview David Nutt.
Daily Photo – The Turkish Baths of Budapest
I’m going to start sharing some of my favorite photos from this mammoth 55 day tour across Europe! I hardly know where to start… how about here, in one of the most relaxing places of all! Budapest is filled with many different Turkish baths, all of which are worth visiting. This one might be my favorite – it’s called Gallert. It was not crowded at all, and there were seven different thermal baths, both inside and outside. We also did some filming in here… people wondered what the heck we were doing running around half nude carrying cameras!
After the madness of Amsterdam, we drove overnight to Berlin for the 7th photo walk on the tour. Here the theme was pathways and how they, as well as other elements, can enhance your photography.
Daily Photo – The Calatrava Bridge in Venice
I don’t do a lot of these abstract scenes, but I do quite like the way this one turned out… I didn’t know for sure if these long shutter techniques would work well. There’s a lot of experimentation if you want to try something like this yourself. Of course, a tripod is mandatory, but then just switch into manual and try different shutter speeds and adjusting the aperture until you get the lighting you like. This one was 3.2 seconds.
While in Europe I’m gathering a lot more video footage with quads… thinking about making another video like this one. I’ve got a few Alan Watts lectures I’ve been enjoying… another mix may be coming on! 🙂
Daily Photo – Huge Gingerbread House in Naples
This was the very first thing I saw as I walked into the Ritz-Carlton here in Naples. And the whole thing was edible! Well, except for the lights. I suppose you COULD eat the lights. Anyway, I waited for it to get dark and then I moved over a small cocktail table in front of it with a glass surface to get the reflection… kind of a nice little trick that adds to the effect, I think!
Amsterdam took us into the second half of the European tour and was a return to one of the places I first worked on HDR. A great chance to think about reinventing the images with my current style.

Daily Photo – The Streets of Old San Juan at night
I went out here with my friend Scott Jarvie for sunset and more… we had the best time roaming around the streets and seeing what we could find! I’ve heard this area could be a bit dangerous, but we certainly didn’t see anything at all. Besides, Scott is a black belt with his witty responses, so no assailant would have ever stood a chance.
I did a Live Facebook Show where I was walking around Old San Juan a bit… it’s embedded below!
Daily Photo – The Fortress from Above
I’ve been a fan of fortresses and castles ever since I was a kid. When I found out there was a big castle here just past the old-city, I had to go! And if you stay tuned for tomorrow’s photo here on the blog, you’ll see the Old City of San Juan at night… I walked over there after I took this photo. I think it’s cool when two such diverse places are so close together.
Here’s another visit of the highlight video from Grand Cayman. You’ll recognize Bourdain drinking vodka in the beginning! 🙂
Daily Photo – Anthony Prepares to go Around the World
Here’s a favorite candid of Bourdain I got during the big “Tasting Around the World” event during the Cayman Cookout. This is right before it began. See all those umbrellas around the outside? Each “booth” was from a different country and there were about 10 represented here… Anthony would go around and have food or drinks at each one… It was a really fun event!
