If you’re a passport member, then today you get my newest video I just made in Japan about the creation of photos from this location:
Ginzan Onsen How-To
Here’s some of the behind the scenes and my thoughts on composition and story-telling around these shots. And, thanks again for being a Passport member! Btw, hint hint… it’s a good gift to get for a friend! 🙂
I recently made some videos that show off Luminar and my Luminar Looks. By the way, they are called Looks now… not presets, but I still say it wrong all the time.
Daily Photo – Shopping Street in Hong Kong
Here’s a fun new photo I’m quite happy with! I took it about half a year ago when I was in Hong Kong, but haven’t processed it until recently. I used one of my Luminar presets from above!
Here’s a few of my favorite photos from that area for you! 🙂
Kyoto Travel and Tip Video
I hope you’ve been enjoying these RATHER high-quality videos we’ve been making recently. I really wanted to thank the team for making it all happen. Here are more tips, tricks, and mind-vitamins from Japan… this time, Kyoto!
Below is the highlight video from our photo walk in Moscow… it was a great way to end the event. If you look closely, there were two undercover marines following me for protection.
A Week in Dusky Sound
Here’s a fun video that shows a boat I was living on for about a week with some friends down in the fjordlands of New Zealand. What a great time we all had! I also recommend this a fun guy trip to anyone. I think everyone pitched in around $800 bucks or so. You get a captain and a chef and basically an unlimited week of freedom!
We were all pretty tired by the time we made it to the last stop in our 10-country tour of Europe a few years ago. But there’s something about being a new city that gives me a little boost of energy! So I tried to use every possible calorie left in my body to see as much as I could… this is the view from one of the bridges as you approach the Red Square.
Be sure to check out my Kit.com and see the section on books! I wanted to recommend, once again, “How to Change Your Mind” by Michael Pollan. Of all the people I recommend it to, 100% of people come back to me with very interesting thoughts!
Experimenting with a new Photoshop feature…
The 2019 Version of Photoshop has a few new features. I like to play with all this stuff just to keep my brain a bit “plastic” and always trying new things. Most of the features in Photoshop are not that useful to me, but these new content-aware options are pretty slick! Check ’em out!
Here’s one of my new favorite kind of drone photos: a photo of a city where you can’t see the skyline. I like this because you can’t quite work out what city it is. I notice when people look at my portfolio, they are always quite ready to guess (or know) what city it is. Actually, I’d probably be the same way… but now I find it interesting to purposefully confuse people.
Today I’m sharing a free Passport video with everyone. If you’re a Passport Member, then you get access to over 100 of these videos and a new one every Sunday! Some of my favorite ones are the six videos I released from Antarctica where you get to see all sorts of behind-the-scenes tomfoolery!
How To Video from Ginzan Onsen
Here’s a video I recently made that shows how I edited a photo from a location very close to where I took today’s daily photo. Of course, I used Aurora HDR 2019 to do all the editing.
Daily Photo – Ginzan Onsen
I came to this place with one of my worst plans, but it totally worked out!
Planning for this Japan trip was very difficult because I was going to many remote towns that a) do not take online booking b) where I stay in small hotels where no one speaks English. This makes getting reservations directly almost impossible!
I tried to get reservations via the bilingual concierge at the Ritz-Carlton in Tokyo, and even though he was very resourceful, he said it was 100% booked. But I decided to go anyway and knock on every door of every ryokan until I found a room. I knew it would be hard because nobody speaks English in these places. Anyway, after I knocked on the door of ryokan #4 I finally found a room! Even better, they had private baths fed by all the steaming water from the nearby hot springs. It was incredible to be soaking in steaming hot mineral water while watching snow fall all around me.
Well I see a ton of funny stuff on there… but I subscribe to the introvert subreddit and saw this video about Introverts vs. Extroverts. Pretty funny and true I think!
Daily Photo – Sunbathing in Budapest
Haha I don’t even know why I took this picture but I do find it amusing. One thing this photo does not get across is that this woman stood there for 30 minutes in the exact same position. I was having a walk around the city by myself on the last day there, and I saw this lady down by the water. I thought it strange and somewhat amusing… and then I doubled back about half an hour later, and she was still there! So then, I thought, well now I gotta take a photo.
Here is a video from our Facebook live in Tokyo for the fun event. It was great to see some old and new faces! 🙂
Daily Photo – Autumn Night Streets in Tokyo
Right after our photo walk in Tokyo, I decided to have about an hour of wander-around time. I put on my earphones and off I went! It was a really great hour and the colors were amazing. I had been so busy in Tokyo over the previous days that I didn’t really have a lot of chances to get out there and shoot by myself, so this was great fun for me.
Remember the Spanish cathedral from a few days ago? Here is a shot from the interior. I was pleasantly surprised at how colorful and festive the painting was on the interior. Sometimes these cathedrals can be a bit pensive severe, warning worshippers of the infinite power of the Almighty. I quite prefer the bright and fanciful colors!
This is one of my favorite videos we made in the last year! Thanks again to Olya and the team!
Daily Photo – I love Nice!
I took this during our short day in Nice, France while we were on the European Tour. After a breakfast stop with mimosas, we took a stroll down the beachfront and ended up in this hashtaggy area where a bunch of locals were in full French party mode! This is kind of a “throwaway photo” – and by that, I mean, I take a lot of quick photos here and there with never any plans to publish them. Just tiny little moments here and there that I think are interesting. I don’t publish 95% of the photos I take… I’ve always thought about making a Tumblr or another Instagram account called “Trey’s Throwaway Photos” that are little moments like this. I don’t know what to do with my other 95% of photos… they are not terrible, but they’re not portfolio-quality either… just kind of in between… little ideas like this.
