Here’s a pretty cool perspective of LA. You can get this photo by climbing around up in the Hollywood Hills until you can find gaps and openings to get new perspectives on the city. This is the area where my agent at CAA works. If my agent is reading this, then she is welcome to do a lot more agenting for me! 🙂
It’s not easy to get back here to get these shots. There’s a ton of security here now, so you really have to have a connection to get behind the fence. Luckily, my friend Caleb made a friend up there after he got caught sneaking around to get photos. I don’t know how the hell he got up here because it’s actually wicked-steep!
Here is a new documentary I’m really enjoying… check out the trailer and go watch it at https://becomingnobody.com.
Daily Photo – Los Angeles with Brandin Cooks
The last time I went to LA, I had a fun day with Brandin Cooks to head out to downtown to take some cool photos in some favorite spots. Brandin played for the Rams at the time and he has a super nice car, as you might imagine. We were pretty worried about parking it random spots in downtown LA that we might get attacked or something. I wasn’t worried… I figure I had Brandin to protect me! 🙂
Here are some of my favorite photos that I submitted. Note that all of these were rejected! But that’s okay, because they selected nine other ones I really loved too!
Sam and I are excited to release our newest creation: Machine Elf 34: Master Owl.
The owl knows everything and is often the one who allows you to see it. Graced by the owls presence, Machine Elf 34 takes us on an unpredictable adventure that delves inside the alien mind to see what hides within. This is our most mathematically complex fractal so far and is a combination of the Xenodreambuie in a hybrid with Atan2Power 2. As with all the others, watch in full screen with the volume up and allow yourself to fall away into the world.
These are also available in 360 for a cool VR app called TRIPP. If you have an Oculus Quest, Go or Rift, you can download TRIPP which features guiding experiences to make you happier, calmer and more focused. Grab that here: https://the-machine-elf.com/TRIPP

Fun Day at Pinterest
Here’s a fun trip down memory lane when I spent an entire day at the Pinterest HQ in San Francisco. This is just when they are getting started so everyone looks a bit younger! 🙂
I got up early with the quadcopter in hopes of a good sunrise and I was lucky! I was staying here at the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay with my family and they are used to me trudging out of the room in the dark trying not to wake everyone up. That doesn’t always work usually because I have to get my stuff together from all over the room. Anyway, after I got outside I was able to get the quad way out over the Pacific Ocean. Flying it over the water always gives me a little extra anxiety… I don’t know why. It’s just as likely to crash and break over land too!
I love this guy… he always has a fresh perspective on things.
Daily Photo – Carnival Row at Disney
When I was at Disneyland in Anaheim, I thought this would make excellent subject-matter for an HDR shot. This mix of lights and textures usually comes out pretty cool. There was a lack of symmetry in this one, so I did a bit of reflection in the top part. If you look closely, you’ll see the top half is pretty much an exact inverted copy from right to left.
As many of you know, I was invited by Vanity Fair and the Ritz-Carlton to do a solo show during the Oscars. A lot of work went into it, and today, if you’re a Passport Member, then you get to see some of the details behind the layout. Enjoy!
Photos from the Exhibit
Here’s a smattering of some of the photos from the big show! You’ll hear more about them in the Passport Sunday video below.
Vanity Fair Show Layout
While I was going through this process, I thought it would be interesting to record a video so you could see some of the work that went into it. Enjoy!
