The D3S

Daily Photo – The D3S

Yesterday I mentioned that I’m moving to a new device for my photography and shared an image from one of my earliest DSLR models, one of Nikons D2 range. Here’s one from the next step along the way, the D3S…

A Gentle Kiss in the Hot Tub

Daily Photo – A Gentle Kiss in the Hot Tub

These snow monkeys are the greatest. I spent so long with them, we almost had a three-way.

They are all wild (in the natural sense, mind you), and they come down from the mountains near Nagano, Japan, for several hours a day to play in the natural hot springs. They gallivant around, have fights, play with their kids, have a bit of sweet carnal monkey fun, check their email, and pose for my camera.

These two monkeys spent a lot of time together… they were in maximum “relaxation mode”. They lounged around in every possible position and took occasional breaks to do a bit of mutual grooming.

Relaxing Monkey

Back to the Snow Monkeys!

I’m excited to go see my snow monkey friends again in late October. This time, we’ll bring the video crew and everything and make some cool content. It’s gonna be great. I wonder if the snow monkeys will remember me fondly. Let’s hope so.

Daily Photo – Relaxing Monkey

Man, these snow monkeys really know how to relax. You can just tell they’re not worrying about anything. Whenever I take a nap, even on a Sunday afternoon, I feel guilty as shit. Probably just because I work too hard and am kind of obsessive… but I do like hanging out with these monkeys. They make me feel a little less guilty about taking a nap!

Contemplative Snow Monkey

Kit Goodies

Kit Screenshot

Here’s a photo of my main kit! Pretty simple, eh? You can check out Kit.com to see more and read a description I wrote about my set-up.

As for today’s photo, it was taken with that Hasselblad and the 90mm lens.

Daily Photo – Contemplative Snow Monkey

I notice most of my photos of snow monkeys catch them in kind of a contemplative mood. I can’t imagine what all these monkeys are contemplating all the time. I don’t think they get caught up in any kind of ego or unconscious thoughts… lucky for them. And I know we tend to anthropomorphize all animals, but that’s probably just the way they are. He’s probably not worrying about taxes or running out of coffee or getting the kids through school. I think this is probably the look of not worrying about anything.

Monkeys in their Leisure Time

Android Watch or Apple Watch?

I guess I don’t really need either one… but I was kind of thinking about getting one! Which one would you get?

Daily Photo – Monkeys in their Leisure Time

I only recently processed this image even though I was here with the snow monkeys a while ago. I still remember how interesting they were to watch – like weird humans. They were perfectly cool with me being near them, as long as I didn’t get too close. They would show their teeth a bit if I got inside that dangerzone, which was a pretty good excuse to back off!

Baby Snow Monkeys, Scared and Hugging

This Week In Photography Interview

I was just a guest on This Week in Photo. Click that link to hear the interview…

Daily Photo – Baby Snow Monkeys, Scared and Hugging

Some of the adult monkeys got into a fight. I’m not sure what the fight was about. There was a female monkey with big boobs that may have been the source of it all, but I’m just speculating with my monkey-brain. Either way, these little babies were scared while watching, so they gave each other hugs and shivered.

Google Currents

Have you installed Google Currents on your Android device or your iPad? It’s pretty cool. If you add me in both places – both as a “Curator” and as in the Lifestyle category, then you can get my stuff ahead of time!

This might be the dumbest name for any photo ever, but all bets are off with these snow monkeys.

Did you know that Nolan Ryan from the Texas Rangers has a bunch of snow monkeys in South Texas? Oh yes, listen here. Really – listen! 🙂

New Books En Route to Flatbooks

Thanks so much for enjoying all the eBook offerings over at Flatbooks.com ! I appreciate it, and so do all the other authors there… 🙂

We have a great new eBook on the way… and it is being written by the very same Jaime Ibarra that I mention below. It will be an amazing one…

Also, don’t forget to check out the new printing eBook from Ron Martinsen that was released a few weeks ago.

Daily Photo – The Snow Monkey

I found this guy right outside of Nagano, Japan.

I’ve had this photo for a while, and I decided to process it today while hanging out with Jaime Ibarra from IbarraPhoto.com (nudity warning. nudity opportunity.) We spent all day and night processing photos. He’s a great guy. His techniques are so unique! I was able to convince him to write an ebook for Flatbooks.com — I can’t wait to see it. We hope to get it out before Thanksgiving! 🙂
