Having Fun in the Library

Episode 6 of My Audio Podcast

There are now 6 of my audio podcasts available on your favourite streaming services (iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify or in some regions Google Play).

In this episode, while walking on the El Camino in Spain, I talk with Kevin Kelly about one of his many projects, the 10,000 Year Library. And yes, you can participate! It’s a really fun concept… I won’t spoil it!

Daily Photo – Having Fun in the Library

When we went to the crazy library in Tianjin, we decided to have some fun and do some posed shots. That Curtis there on the right and the lady on the left was one of the ladies from the Ritz-Carlton that brought us here. She is probably the most giggly person I have ever met in my life. Literally, anything I would say or do would make her giggle uncontrollably. But, I actually like this quality in people… I like when they laugh at my jokes even when they make absolutely no sense.

The Pixel 3 Phone

Insane family pizza Restaurant

This is why I don’t have a pizza place with my family:

Daily Photo – The Pixel 3 Phone

Here’s another photo from the workshop here in New Zealand. This one happened to be with the Pixel 3 phone. I am often quite amazed at how incredible the camera is on this phone. Maybe its most underrated feature (which seems a bit obvious when I point it out) is how convenient it is. Once you get into the world of photography, you are able to see nice scenes throughout the day. I don’t always have my big Sony with me, but I do always have my phone! This was exactly the case here when we were driving up to the Remarkables in our bus and I saw this scene. And yes, even though I had my Sony, I decided to take this one with the Pixel!

Max Patte’s Horses at The Hills

Crazy Japanese Game

This is a “game” they play in Japan called Bo-Taoshi. It’s mostly done in the military. Click the video title to see the full frame, it’s worth it!

Daily Photo – Max Patte’s Horses at The Hills

We had a wonderful time strolling around The Hills during our photo workshop. I really enjoy seeing how excited people are when they see the unique art and sculptures spread around the course. Here, you can see one of my new besties out with these incredible horses that were designed and built by Max Patte.

Badass Sloth

I’ve never seen a sloth look so cool! (If you can’t see the full vertical video, click through via the video title.)

Daily Photo – Phoenix City, China

The ancient town of Fenghuang in China. This was not an easy place to get to and required a long and bumpy drive from the closest airport. As you can see, it was definitely worth the long journey… I basically spent all day taking photos, drawing, and eating… it was a great few days!

Tree at The Hills

More Train Action in India

I never get tired of looking at these crazy train situations in India.

I guess this was the last train

Daily Photo – Tree at The Hills

I should spend more time taking photos at The Hills! It’s such a great place and perfect tableau for creating art. There are all sorts of cool sculptures all over the place, and this one is Michael Hill’s son, Mark. He has his studio very close by. Whenever I wander around, I stop by his studio to have a look at his latest creations. He’s a very inspiring guy, like his dad!

The Opera House in Sydney

Another Book Suggestion

I have a Neal Stephenson book recommended here on my Kit.com. This one is pretty intense, so get ready for the ride!

Daily Photo – The Opera House in Sydney

A few years ago, I went to Australia with Neal Stephenson while he was researching his new book. I’m a great secret keeper, so I can’t talk about it. We had a great time… I actually kept track of a lot of stories of our adventures, but I don’t want to release them until after his book is out! If it wasn’t for Neal, I might have never seen the bustling metropolis of Dubbo, Australia.

Daily Photo – Passport Sunday Fun in New York

We received an amazing invite from some friends from New Zealand to visit their apartment in New York to take some photos one evening. It was in a very unique location, and one of my favorite things about this angle is that it doesn’t even look like New York!

The Lies of Locke Lamora

I have a new book suggestion that came from my friend Brian Brushwood! The book is called “The Lies of Locke Lamora,” and if you are a fan of “The Name of the Wind,” then you will like this one as well. You can see it and more of my book recommendations here.

Panorama of an Autumn Tree Before Sunrise

My Dad’s Facebook Page

Hey, I know it’s kind of a weird thing when your dad dies, but, even more strange, is their Facebook page lives on. Here’s a link to my dad’s Facebook page. When I wrote my new book, I dedicated it to him in a rather strange manner… but I think he would have liked it.

Daily Photo – Panorama of an Autumn Tree Before Sunrise

On one of our morning photo walks, I saw this beautiful tree along the lakefront in Queenstown. I didn’t have the right lens, so I took a 2×2 panorama. I merged them together in Photoshop to create the final image. I’m pretty happy with it, but I honestly think it would be better if I had stayed here and wait for the sun to shine through the leaves.

The Wood Comes Down the Valley

Detail Shot

Today’s Daily Photo is about 20,000 pixels across, but here is a detail of one of the photos that went into the massive panorama.

Daily Photo – The Wood Comes Down the Valley

After I dropped off Ethan, I began a random drive around Picton and the north island to find some new scenes. Almost immediately, I came upon this tremendous logging operation. It was impressive to watch all these huge logs being dropped off and then transported to this ship. I assume (but not sure) that this ship then takes all of these logs to China.
