Trey’s 360 Podcast – Craig Mod, Behind the Podcast

While walking the Camino in Spain last year I recorded this chat with Craig Mod as he was recording our chat for himself. You’ll find us discussing all sorts but there is a bunch of useful info in here for those of you who might be thinking about how you can approach one of these long hikes as a complete novice.

Find out more about Craig and his awesome writing at his site: https://craigmod.com/

NOTE: The battery dies part way through on the 360 camera but the audio lives on!

Daily Photo – Family in Fort Lauderdale

I found taking photos in Ft. Lauderdale to be a little difficult, to tell you the truth. There’s nothing wrong with the place, but there are not many iconic places or even cool “secret” places. I mean, there’s a few… but it’s mostly beach. When I’m in these situations, I usually look for cool street photography, or, in this case, beach photography. It’s fun to find interesting family situations and try to capture a tableau vivant.

Night View of Philadelphia

Daily Photo – Night View of Philadelphia

What a great city Philly is! On my first night here, I was staying over there on the left at the Ritz-Carlton, and then I went out to take some night time photos. Usually, when I arrive in a new city, I have an unexplained high level of energy. I love to use this energy to go out and get lost in the city and take photos. The whole city felt very safe to me, so I had no problem roaming around and finding scenes like this. That’s the giant City Hall right there in the middle. It’s a well laid out city because there are four long roads that all lead right to that iconic building.

Wild Fox in Yellowstone

Daily Photo – Wild Fox in Yellowstone

While I was staying with friends in Yellowstone, there was a new family of foxes that were living under a nearby barn. I went over there one day and sat under a tree like a hunter for about an hour. There were three or four cute little cubs. Is that what you call a baby fox? I did find out what you call a female fox: a vixen! I didn’t know that… Who comes up with the names of these things, anyway? That’s a good one.

Continuing our Tour of New York

Daily Photo – Continuing our Tour of New York

As you can tell, I’m posting a lot of my favorite photos from the recent tour across the Americas! One of the best cities for taking a ton of photos was New York, especially here around the previous site of the Twin Towers. This building was designed by Calatrava, and I think it’s absolutely amazing. It was my first time seeing it in person. The structure reminded me of whale bones for some reason. I was excited to see what was inside, but it turned out to be kind of a boring shopping mall.

A Castle in Toronto! Casa Loma

Daily Photo – A Castle in Toronto! Casa Loma

Who knew there was such a cool castle in Toronto? Certainly not me! But, in our research, we found this place called Casa Loma. You may remember it as the castle Patrick Stewart lived inside in the X-Men movies. It’s pretty during the day, but I decided to go at night because of all the crazy lighting. Besides, castles are always a bit more romantic to me in the night.

Toronto in the morning from Humber Bay Park

Daily Photo – Toronto in the morning from Humber Bay Park

Early one morning, I had a new friend take us over to Humber Bay Park East to get a view of the sunrise. There is a lovely little walk there along the lakefront. We got up at about 4:30 AM and headed out there… I didn’t expect to see many other people, but we saw about a dozen or so around the track. It’s also cool that this place, as remote as it is, is actually connected to the main city of Toronto through a running and biking track.

Passport Sunday!

We’re in Africa for Passport Sunday this week and in glorious 360 to boot as I chat with some of the lovely people below. This was taken just as we were heading off to another location on part 1 of my Africa photo adventure/workshop.

Delving into the minds of my workshop friends

I’m out in Africa at the moment (probably Madagascar when you’re reading this) running a couple of back to back photography adventures. During the first workshop I grabbed a few of the attendees for a quick chat about what they will take away from the experience. It’s always fun to hear what people pick up on, especially those who’ve joined one of my trips before. (Next up on the workshop front is New Zealand in April… which is fall/autumn in upsidedownland… Come join me!)

Oh, and remember, you can grab the camera view and spin it to look around as you watch. 🙂

Check out the latest episode of my podcast below. On this walk n talk I’m with Matt Hackett, one of the guys who took Tumblr to 100m+ regular visitors before co-founding Beme with Casey Neistat… a company which went on to be bought by CNN.

Daily Photo – Museum Reflections in New York City

This area around the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City is absolutely beautiful. There are great shots in every direction. This particular one is taken along the windows at the big museum there. I didn’t go into the museum… although now I wish I would have because I had a bunch of people tell me online that it’s quite awesome inside! Oh well… next time!

Wild Night in Toronto at Caribana

Photos from Caribana

Here are a few photos from Caribana so you can see what it’s like! What a wild party… I want to go back! 🙂

Daily Photo – Wild Night in Toronto at Caribana

I didn’t know what I was getting us into when I recommended we head down to this pier in Toronto to take sunset photos. It turns out there was a MASSIVE party going on called Caribana. We were arriving just as the party was ending… and, let me tell you, we were absolutely the only white people there. But that’s totally cool. They seemed to really accept me into their community. Probably because they were all drunk and high. But hey, I’ll take it. I talked my way into the pool area after everyone had left to get this photo.

Trey in Action in Pittsburgh

Daily Photo – Trey in Action in Pittsburgh

Here’s a fun photo captured by Curtis while we were in Pittsburgh together. I don’t normally climb stuff, but in this case, I climbed up one of those bright yellow bridges there! We spent the day with our Brazilian photographer friends Rodrigo and Ricardo Polesso… navigating our way all through the city throughout the day and the night.
