Chinatown in Boston
Speaking of China…
Check out this crazy structure they are building up the side of this cliff in China. I wonder what they are building…
The Paramount in Boston
Daily Photo – The Paramount in Boston
Here’s the famous Paramount Theater in Boston. It looks pretty cool during the daytime, but when all the lights come on at dusk, it’s the best time to take a photo. This shot is using a technique called compression, one that some of you photographers may already know about. The way to get it is to back up as far as possible and use a zoom lens. This one was a bit difficult because I had to run out in the middle of the street to get the right angle.
Boston Just Before Dusk
My first photo of Boston
Here’s my first photo of Boston, about 13 years ago…
Daily Photo – Boston Just Before Dusk
Memory is a strange thing, I must say! I was in Boston about 13 years before I took this photo (as you can see from the photo above). Obviously, I like my new photo 10000000x better, but the strange thing is I barely remember being in Boston 13 years ago. And, like, this is before I was drinking or anything, so I have no excuse. I just can’t remember why on earth I was in Boston or what I was doing. I don’t remember where I stayed or how I even found this place. When I was back here last month, I definitely had a strange deja vu. Well, obviously, I was here… yeah, memory is weird.
The Public Library in Boston
Trey’s 360 Podcast – Dr David Sands on the wonders of zinc
Dr David Sands, as well as being a rather talented poet, is a professor of Plant Pathology, Bacteriology and Biocontrol of Weeds with Plant Pathogens. In this chat we talk a little about genes before moving on to the benefits of zinc. Then, as with all good science talk, we end with a poem.
If this is your first time seeing a 360 Video, note you can grab the screen and look anywhere! Or alternatively, here is the audio version…
Daily Photo – The Public Library in Boston
This is one of the coolest libraries I’ve ever visited! I was once again paranoid I’d be kicked out for taking photos, but they didn’t seem to mind at all! I didn’t take in my tripod because I don’t usually use it in the daytime. Besides, it was bright enough inside to squeeze off three brackets and make sure that my shutter speed was fast enough for no blur. My rule of thumb on that is to make sure my slowest exposure is at least 1/30th of a second!
Incredible Boston and the Paramount Theater
Hey, Trey from the past here… or is it the future? Not sure, anyway, by the time you are reading this I’ll have landed in Africa for my latest workshop. There are no more scheduled for 2019 but you can grab a spot on the 2020 New Zealand workshop here.
Daily Photo – Incredible Boston and the Paramount Theater
I didn’t know Boston very well at all before visiting, so it was a real delight when I was in a car on the way to the Ritz-Carlton and I saw this amazing theater! I’ve never seen it before and it feels like it’s right out of the 1940’s. I visited here many times to get a lot of different perspectives, but this was one of my favorites. I went down the street a bit, switched to portrait mode, and zoomed in to get a bit of the compression effect.
Boston at Sunset
Google+ has been crazy lately. I broke 200,000 followers (see SocialStatistics.com and there are all kinds of new people discovering this kind of photography, which is pretty exciting. I can barely keep up with it all… I did start a post to have people write a little bit about themselves. It capped out at 500 comments very quickly. But you can see all sorts of people on there… very interesting to see the volume and variety!
Since I did it there, I thought I should do it here too! I know MANY of you by now, obviously… and I think the rest of the community here has gotten to know you a bit through your comments as well. But, why not take this opportunity to say hello and tell us a little about yourself. Feel free to include links to your website, your blog, your google+, or whatever you like! 🙂
Daily Photo – Boston at Sunset
Boston is great, and I am sad I’ve only spent a short amount of time there. On this evening, I walked along the waterfront here to look at all the various angles and light levels. They were all good! That’s a sign of a good city when it is hard to take a bad photo of it!
The Firemen in Boston
Early one morning I went walking around the streets of Boston and I found this firehouse. They were looking at me a little suspiciously while taking photos, but they let me be… I think they could tell that I thought firehouses and firemen were pretty cool. Firemen can see that kinda thing in people!
Walking Along the Waterfront in Boston
I have not spent enough time in Boston! I really need to explore the city more, but I tried to make the most of it while I was there.
One evening, about an hour from sunset, I found one of the prettiest waterfronts and started walking along it to see what I could find. After only a few moments, I came to this nice little area of greenery, benches, and a nice place to hang out and appreciate the colors of Boston. After only spending a short amount of time there, I now see why people like it so much!
Downtown Boston from my Hotel Room
Usually, I like to sneak up to the roof of buildings to get the best shots. But, every now and then, my best plans are foiled by locked doors and surly security guards. My charms fail at some point, and I am stuck shooting out of my hotel room window. The only advantage is that I don’t have to freeze in 10 degree howling wind while waiting for the light to hit its apogee of beauty.
This was just about the prettiest part of the day, especially since I had to spend the rest of it staring at morose lawyers.
