Stuck On Earth for Mac still in testing!

We’re still working hard on this. It will be a free app when it is released, and I want to make this one absolutely perfect! The Android and iPad versions are already out there, so be sure to go grab those if you have not already!

Most Expensive Places in California for Living?

Is there a list of these somewhere?  I know Carmel is expensive… so is Atherton… and I can think of a handful of other places, but I wonder if there was an official list somewhere… that would be interesting!

Daily Photo – Hiking in Carmel

Just south of Carmel-by-the-Sea is a hiking trail that goes along the coast.  I went down at sunrise one morning to see what I could find.  The entrance to the trail was blocked by a gate, and there was no ranger in the little box-place where rangers stand.  I was bamboozled.  There was no way through or around.  I could have walked, but it looked like the road went on quite a ways before the parking lot.

So I waited until some other guy came along to let himself in.  I was parked a ways back, and so I got his attention from afar by grunting and raising my Nikon-on-tripod over my head like a sand raider — he got the message and waved me through.

EG Conference

Carmel Area suggestions for lodging?

After the conference, I’m staying a few extra days and wondered if you had some suggestions? Perhaps a few nights in Carmel and one down in Big Sur. I usually find my own places, but I find that YOU are such a tremendous resource for suggestions, that I should ask your opinion!

New Print Available!

This is the first print I have released in 2011. As you can see on the Prints page, these are all available in unique numbered series on paper, canvas, and metal.

This photo, like the one below, was taken on a trip up the California coast. I stopped in Hearst Castle for an amazing private tour of the facility. While there, I visited the indoor pool area and had to sidle along a wall to get to this spot. I had a feeling it would splay out some nice shapes for me.

Daily Photo – Off the PCH at Sunset

Whenever I go to California lately, I have meetings in both Los Angeles and San Francisco. Rather than fly between the two, I like to take my time and drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. It’s such a famous highway, but it’s usually fairly empty. There is always a beautiful sunset… it’s pretty much a guarantee. I popped out of my car and hiked through the brush a bit to grab this one so you can see what it looks like.

I took a California road trip up Highway 1 from Los Angeles to San Francisco. On the way is the famous little town of Carmel. It’s right by Pebble Beach, 17-mile drive, and a bunch of other amazing little places. The town is very quaint and cool… a lovely place to walk around and explore with your camera!

This was my last shot of the night. After this, I stopped in a small Italian restaurant to eat some tasties while I edited some photos. This is one of my favorite things to do after a day of shooting… just relaxing… having someone bring me coffee and snacks… headphones on… editing away. Good times!

While driving down 17-mile drive a few weeks ago, I stopped for a while to go on a little beach hike! While there, I found this little area…. I set up for a while to see what rolled in!

I had a great long weekend recently. It started in the San Francisco area where I attended the ReadWriteWeb conference on the “Real Time Web”. It was very cool to be sitting in rooms with engineers from Google and other major companies that are in the middle of evolving the web itself. There was lots of good food for thought. I was looking at it from the perspective of how to use the future web to increase attention to good content. I think we are moving into an area where attention can be created, just like wealth in capitalism.

Insofar as I believe attention can be created, I think we are certainly on to something with www.HDRspotting.com. It’s purpose is to drive more attention and traffic to other HDR photographers. I understand from some people that they are getting 5x the number of views there than on Flickr! Great! It was started with the intention that attention can be created, spread, and shared in a more intelligent way. I also get a lot of emails of people asking me for invite codes. I don’t handle that! Sorry! 🙂 But, I do understand that new codes are going out all the time… new features are being added every few days.

This shot below is from 17-mile drive off the famous Pacific Coast Highway in California, a little trip that produced a lot of good shots I will sprinkle in over the coming weeks and months! Hwy 1 runs down a winding coastline, and there are great sites all over the place. This spot is just north of Carmel and a stone’s throw from Pebble Beach. When I was there, I also took this shot with my iPhone. The iPhone is good… but… comon! This one is a bit better… hehe. Am I wrong?
