I always see these signs for falling rocks, but I’ve never seen falling rocks. But now I know what to watch out for after seeing this video!
This temple is right outside of Pattaya, Thailand on the coast. It’s really beautiful and I want to go back to explore it. We were thinking of having a Photo Adventure in Thailand sometime in 2017. If we do, you can be sure this place will be on the list!
If you’re like me, the back of your desk is a total nightmare of wires and plugs! Has anyone ever seen an elegant solution to this? Mostly, what I try to do is make sure all that stuff is outside of my viewcone when I am sitting at my desk. That seems to work… out of sight and out of mind! But I would like another solution if one exists!
I see this kinda thing a lot in SE Asian countries. I saw this one while walking down the street in Pattaya and trying to watch out for trannies. I’ve come up with only one theory for why there are so many wires… I think there are two things happening. Note I have not talked to a Thai electrician to confirm this theory. One: Sometimes the telephone/internet/electricity breaks down. Since there are so many wires, they can’t possibly trace the wire to find the route of the problem and it’s far easier and faster to make yet another new fresh wire! The second is that there is always new construction and density and new customers require their own telephone/internet/electricity so they create even more wires. I dunno… but it’s kinda crazy either way to see this! Sort of the opposite of wireless! 🙂
How did the art director feel about me using a mirrorless camera? What kind of problems did I have on set with costuming? What happened when one of the hobbit-kids freaked out because of the prosthetic feet? What were the challenges in the post-processing?
Join me on the Hobbiton Movie Set in New Zealand as I do a photo shoot campaign for Air New Zealand. I almost never do client work, but since NZ is my new home, I made an exception. Besides, I like Air New Zealand!
You may remember a post from a few weeks ago where I showed the outside of what I consider one of the most amazing temples in the world. It was from Pattaya, Thailand, and one of the most remarkable things is how new it is. Can you believe all this has been built just in the last 20 or 30 years? It’s very Burning-Manish too inside, which is always a plus with me!
The temple was closed at night, but I snuck down through the jungle anyway to get some photos. It’s pretty much being worked on 24/7, so a lot of the workers did not notice me or pay any bother. I did have to dodge a few security guards, but they were largely very nice
There is a very nearby town of scum and villainy called Pattaya in Thailand, and you’d never expect something so beautiful to be so near! But just a short drive away is this rather amazing temple called “The Sanctuary of Truth.” It’s covered with sculptures with both Buddhist and Hindu motifs. Believe it or not, this was begun in 1981 and is scheduled to be completed in 2050.
According to the website, this temple is (and note the nice use of the word “swaggy”!):
“a reflection of the Ancient Vision of Earth, Ancient Knowledge, and Eastern Philosophy. Within this complex, visitors will understand Ancient Life, Swaggy important Human Responsibility, Basic Thought, Cycle of living, Life Relationship with Universe and Common Goal of Life toward Utopia”
I finally finished watching the last episodes of this awesome, crazy show! Anyone else out there enjoy it too? I can’t believe that last season… whoa!
This is the best temple I’ve ever been to in the world! If you ever go to Thailand, be sure to go about 2 hours south of Bangkok to Pattaya to see this place! It’s absolutely beautiful and you’ll have a fabulous time. The nearby town of Pattaya is really worth a visit too, but it’s totally wild! There is a road there called “Walking Street” that is full of all kinds of interesting debauchery. A lot of ladyboys, crazy bars, strip clubs, and, well, just colorful characters everywhere… it’s really fun for street photography there too… Anyway, there’s a little ladyboy+temple advice for ya!
One thing I’ve been trying to do more and more is examine the outlined shapes of whatever I am photographing. Sometimes I get so caught up in the texture and detail that I forget that the overall shape is perhaps the most interesting part of that. Anyway, the more I start thinking about the shape, the more I end up with images like this new favorite one below.
Here’s a view of my favorite new temple as a vile light comes behind it. I love the shape of this place so much! It’s almost too good to be true. Sadly, I was kicked out when the sun started to go down, so this was one of the final shots I was able to finally eeeek out as I was walking away…
I posted this last month, but I’m posting it again in case you missed it! It’s a new video I made in Thailand that shows how I found this spot! I used Stuck On Earth (free app!).
Finding this little spot was kind of lucky! It was really found because I was hiding from security in the bushes. I didn’t know if I was in trouble or not for being down here at night. Maybe I have a guilty conscience and that makes me paranoid. It’s not paranoia if it’s true – haha! Anyway, I was hiding in the bushes probably near a bunch of scary Thai snakes, and I saw this really nice reflection off the water. So I beat my way through a little-bit-o-jungle to get down to the water’s edge to get this shot.
I made this video that shows how I used Stuck On Earth (free app!) to find some cool spots. This video might show you some stuff about Stuck On Earth that you don’t know too! BTW, we just updated all versions. There seems to be something quirky with the Mac version and the way the update is (not) working. You may have to uninstall then re-install to get it to work right!
The Sanctuary of Truth, or, as I like to say, the ?????????????, is probably the most awesome temple I’ve ever seen. Everyone one of these statues is carved from wood. What is particularly interesting about this temple is it was started by a Thai businessman in 1981. That is kind of mind-blowing when you see the sheer epicness of this thing! You can see a bit more in the video above as well…
Check out the Macphun Review here on the site. It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited about a nice piece of software… You can also pop right over to buy it at MacPhun Creative Kit!
Here’s a few sneak peaks of what it looks like… more inside the review!
I just visited this rather AMAZING temple here in Thailand. This is called Wang Boran. After I got down through the trees to explore more, I was completely shocked at this place. Wow… Maybe you can get a sense of it from the other pictures in the MacPhun review above… will write more about the story of it all soon!
