Ending the Day on a Texas Farm

Daily Photo – Ending the Day on a Texas Farm

This photo was shot about two hours outside of Austin in a little town called Brady. You’d like it. They have a Sonic there.

Dallas Double Exposure

Daily Photo – Dallas Double Exposure

This is the amazing place where we had the Dallas Photo Walk! Man, I was so tired that morning; I almost didn’t make it. We had just driven in from New Orleans where we partied a little too hard… then slept on the bus all the way to Dallas. We woke up, and there was a Rolls Royce Ghost outside the bus that was sent by the Ritz-Carlton to ferry us over to their location. The GM was there and everything. We stumbled out of bed and got dressed, but I tell ya what – the whole thing was VERY confusing, but awesome!

Machine Elf 36 – Open Heart

Here’s the latest! Machine Elf 36 – Open Heart. I remember laying out in the white sands of the desert at Burning Man on my back in the middle of the afternoon, looking at the sun and blue sky. I was thinking about 1,000 different things and not thinking of them at the same time. Yes, I might have been on acid, but that’s beside the point. Well, not really, because, soon enough, I heard this song “Burning Sun” by Monolink playing about half a mile away from an art car… the sounds vibrated out the desert where I was hearing them… I remember what I saw and I’ve tried to recreate it here.

Best of: Austin!

And next up is the Best of Austin shots! Well, I’m not sure these are the absolute best, but there are few winners in here I haven’t thought about in a while.

A Sunset on a Texas Farm This photo was shot about two hours outside of Austin in a little town called Brady. You'd like it. They have a Sonic there. This was a 5-exposure HDR shot at f/16. This kept everything in focus and kept the shutter open long enough to let the clouds drag across the sensor. In these conditions, you don’t have a lot of time to fool around because the sun is bookin’ it towards the horizon.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.

The State Capitol of Texas at Dusk I went down on Saturday evening to do some shooting around Austin and caught the capitol around sunset. There are all kinds of interesting things about the Texas capitol, like this cool underground Illuminati chamber you can see here, but the one thing that all Texans seem to know is that our capitol is 14 feet taller than the one in D.C. This is a source of pride for Texans, along with the cool and trivial fact that we maintain, in our state constitution, the right to secede from the Union. The capitol is made out of this pink granite, and it gets a little pinker at night at soon as they turn on the lights, especially against the blue sky.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.

The Pennybacker Bridge This place is right by my house…. I really have no excuse for not going up here almost every night! It takes less than 10 minutes to drive and hike up here… sometimes I actually feel bad about my laziness in this area. It’s usually not too crowded up here. Maybe a couple or two will sit and watch the sunset. It’s a bit dangerous – a sharp cliff that drops off into the freeway on one side and the water on the other.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.

Best of… Texas!

I was just listening to a new Joe Rogan podcast and it was cool to hear how he’s moving to Texas. I think he’s just sick of paying taxes to a state that doesn’t take care of itself very well… or maybe I’m just reading between the lines. Probably not, seeing how he just got a $100 mil deal from Spotify. I wish I could talk him into moving to New Zealand! Anyway, here are some of my favorite images of my home state.

Her Evening Elegance A Texas sunset settled on the farm as we patiently waited for the sky to repaint itself every few minutes. It was a very relaxing hour, watching the sun slowly descend through the clouds, interrupted on occasion by a stressful swapping of lenses. I hate to get dust in the chamber, so the changing of lenses is always a high-anxiety event! But the anxiety faded away pretty quick as we started watching the sunset again. My friend Leslie had invited me out to her parent's farm near Brady. She's an actress, a model, a photographer, and a bunch of other creative things... so I had told her I would spend equal amounts of time shooting the farm, her animals, and her. It's the old 33/33/33 rule of farm-shooting. Anyway, I am sure some of you would rather see photos of her... and still others of her animals... but I can't make everyone happy at once, so you'll just have to wait a few weeks for me to sprinkle those in! Until then, I hope you enjoy the sunset.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.

The Dance RecitalI feel like I go to about 20 dance recitals a year! If you have a daughter in dance, then you know what I mean. This was a cold one, and I mean supa-cold. It was about 20 degrees outside, and then recital was, for some reason, outside. I was going to go sit down and cover up, but the blanket was only big enough for the rest of the family. So I decided to keep moving and take a lot of photos. I went back behind the crowd to get this one just before the show began...- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post, including my thoughts about dance recital photography policies, at the Stuck in Customs blog.

My Dad as a Baby!

Merry Christmas!

I wanted to wish a happy holidays to you! Thanks for coming so often to the blog… it means a lot to me! I’m glad you get some enjoyment out of it as well. 🙂

Daily Photo – My Dad as a Baby!

I don’t post a lot of “family” photos, but when my dad died last year, we went through all the archives and found this one. It’s so weird to see your parents as babies, right? It must have been so weird to have grown up back in the olden days. I don’t know how those kids survived without Youtube and Tiktok. And how did their parents find their way around without GPS? It’s amazing humanity has made it this far.

See you soon, dad, in the next simulation!

This was a good one!
Ahhh, sorry to see my dad go. But he had a good one, you know? Loved his kids, raced cars, built golf courses, made people laugh, and generally tried to make things better 😃
I’m back in the USA to attend his ceremony at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. As with my dad, all are welcome. I suppose I’ll get up and say some words to celebrate his life and tell some funny stories? That’s how he would have wanted it, I think. A bit of a party and celebration for all that loved him.
It’s all good, you don’t have to say you’re sorry in the comments, I have another idea if you want to comment in the last para. But, first, here’s why you don’t have to say you’re sorry: I’m good with my dad! You all know I’m a zen guy. But, besides that, I had no unresolved issues with him. I knew he loved me. I knew he was proud. And vice-versa on all issues. What else could ya want with your pops?
If you want to leave a comment, why not say some little thing you like about your dad?
