A Serene Lake Hayes

Daily Photo – A Serene Lake Hayes

I was doing a run around this lake (it’s about 8 km and a little bit hilly as you can see there on the right), and I noticed how still everything was. It’s not always like this… so halfway through the run, I decided to call my assistant and have them bring out my quadcopter to grab this shot. Drones are so good nowadays; I almost prefer to use them over my regular camera. When it comes to shooting landscape photos, the f-stop isn’t especially important since you want everything in focus anyway. Also, it has around the same number of megapixels as my high-end Sony, so there is not a lot of difference. And, if you are making panoramas, you can still make prints at least 10ft across, which is more than big enough for major installations.

Ballooning in New Zealand

Article in Elle about Instagram Fraud – “The Social Media Scams Costing Businesses £1Billion Per Year”

I was recently interviewed by Elle in their new Instagram article about Instagram Fraud. I hope you enjoy the read! 🙂

Daily Photo – Ballooning in New Zealand

I took this one beautiful morning at Lake Hayes, near Queenstown, New Zealand. I’ve always wanted to take a balloon ride here, but I haven’t carved out enough time to make it happen. I’ve never taken a balloon ride before, and I’m often confused about how you steer the thing around. I know there’s air currents and stuff, but how do you know? And what if you blow over the mountain into an area with no roads (which is most of New Zealand)? I don’t know… these are all the questions I will ask the balloonist (is that what they are called) when I finally get on a balloon.

Daily Photo – Over Lake Hayes

This balloon company has given me many opportunities for a free balloon ride, but I still haven’t taken them up on it. Why not? I don’t know! I’m kinda busy, but not THAT busy. And I’ve always wanted to do one… well, I’ll let this act as a reminder to officially get this on my to-do list!

A Smooth Day on Lake Hayes

Mavic 2 on the way!

Well, after my Mavic Pro had a dramatic crash, it’s time for a new unit with the Mavic 2! I’m excited about it… will try to pick one up on my upcoming trip to San Francisco! It looks like a nice little upgrade… I’m not materialistic at all, but I do kinda get excited about new creative tools like this.

This is a good example of those 1/7 days where there is absolutely no wind at all. I took this with my quadcopter right in the middle of the lake. I’m always more worried flying it over water for some reason. I suppose that’s because it could always crash and that would be the end of it all. Although, realistically, 90% of the crashes over land if you’re 10 meters up could be catastrophic as well!
