A version of this photo/location currently sits as my 2nd most viewed image ever on Flickr but this one I quite like too. Something went a bit mad with the sky in this one during processing, but it was a happy accident that I decided I liked. That weirdness works well with the crispness of the lower half of the image, I think.
What’s more scenic than fishing with that amazing mountain in the background? It’s so cinematic and dramatic all the time. I can just picture these guys pulling fish out of the water and everything is in slow motion and majestic. I sat here and watched them fish for about an hour. It served as a perfect place for meditation.
On Netflix, there is a new show called “Have a Good Trip on Psychadelics” that is absolutely hilarious. There are funny stories from Anthony Bourdain, Carrie Fisher, and a ton of others.
Daily Photo – A Little Village near Mount Fuji
It’s hard to believe how huge Mount Fuji is until you see it in person. It’s so big you can even see it from Tokyo! There is a hike that you can take to the top to see the sunrise. I thought about doing that, but I also heard that the way down is quite slippery and dangerous. Sometimes going uphill on a hike is even easier than downhill.
I was honored to be interviewed about the “The Mystery of Memory” by Wired Magazine. The web interface is really cool… I’ve never seen an article displayed like that before. It’s fine on mobile, of course, but if you have a chance to see it on the web, please do! And I hope you enjoy the article.
Daily Photo – A Day at Mount Fuji
After our whirlwind Japanese photo walk and art talk tour, I decided to have some downtime at Mt. Fuji. It was a beautiful, clear autumn day. I walked here from my ryokan, and it took about 45 minutes around Lake Kawaguchiko. It was a beautiful morning… I took a few photos. Not many. But then I arrived at this strange place called the Musical Forest. I thought, I gotta go in there! After I was in and exploring a bit, I saw this charming scene with Mt. Fuji in the background.
Did you know you can get great shots of Mount Fuji only about an hour outside of Tokyo? Yes! Sometimes even on crystal clear days you can even see Mt. Fuji from Tokyo. Anyway, I really recommend jumping in a car and getting out into the wild a little and find nice perspectives of Fuji. There are amazing spots all around!
Daily Photo – Mount Fuji, Framed
Even though I was at this location several years ago, I only just processed this photo recently. Seeing this again makes me reeeeeaaaalllly want to go back to Japan! How much longer must I wait! Maybe I’ll just make it happen! 🙂
I’ve been to Tokyo about five times before I ever decided to go visit Mt. Fuji. I suppose I didn’t know how close it was! It’s really just a short drive and there are countless good angles from all the small villages around the ba
Daily Photo – A Young Ninja at Mt. Fuji
How cool is this kid? I was exploring this small town around Fujisan and all of the sudden, this kid jumped out of the shadows and started doing all kinds of crazy moves! I pulled out my camera, then he really started going nuts, performing all kinds of wild maneuvers at me. It was so awesome!
I have a dumb Mount Fuji question! Does it ALWAYS have snow on the top bit, or are there times when it melts off. I can’t think of a time I’ve ever seen it without snow… but I am not a Fuji-san expert… thus the question!

I’ll be in Auckland on Sunday to speak at the big NZIPP Event. I’m afraid that one is not open to the public, but maybe you can sneak in! I’ll also be at the event below, the huge Problogger event in Australia by Darren Rowse. I believe that event is Sold Out! But you should check their website and see if any more become available.
Half of Photography is just showing up
Here is a behind-the-scenes video I made while I was taking the photo below (well the 2nd half of the video!)…
Daily Photo – Fujisan and the spaceship
This was a fun evening exploring some temples around the outskirts of Mount Fuji. I have a feeling there are hundreds more places like this… I want to explore them all! 🙂
Recently appeared on Greek TV to talk about Google Glass and he mentioned me in a very nice way. Antonis composes a lot of the music I use in my videos, so be sure to look for his work on one of the sites below! 🙂
Here I am in that little village of Saiko. I don’t know if it is always relatively empty or just this one day, but hardly anyone was around. I did see this one older gentleman sauntering around, and he happened to saunter right into the frame! A lucky grab! 🙂
This “look” for this photo is a bit experimental, but I kind of like it. To achieve it (this is Photoshop-heavy-jargon I’m afraid!), you can duplicate the layer then do some extreme sharpening and a black and white conversion using something like Silver Efex Pro (there is a review here on the site). After that, you can change the blend mode to Hard Light… it makes an interesting effect!
Here’s one I just edited together from my trip last week! It shows what happened while I was taking a few different photos around Mount Fuji. The video has a bunch of different tips and tricks, shows how I set up my camera, how I change lenses, how I struggle with putting on the lens hood, and lots of other goodies. Enjoy! 🙂
Daily Photo – Approaching Mount Fuji from the Old Village
What a perfect place this is!
I’ve been to Japan many times, but I never had the chance to visit Mt. Fuji! This time, Tom and I made a point to do it, and this was one of our fist stops. You can see much more about it in the video above!
