It would have been awesome to have one of these rooms during Carnival in Venice right in the middle of St. Mark’s Square. That’s where all the activity is centered, so I think it’d be cool just to hang out there on the balcony and have a lovely day, watching all the costumes down below… it must be a lot like time travel and seeing everything it was 1,000 years ago.
Here’s one of my best-selling tutorials for you! Grab it in the store now!
This sure was a great trip! I think it was rainy and moody almost every day we were filming, but the sun finally came out at the end. It was seriously like 3 weeks with no sun… That’s okay in many ways because Venice is even more beautiful in the rain and mist to me.
This is a cool boutique hotel I stayed in for almost a month in Venice. We also hosted our photo workshop here, so we would all gather here every day to work on photos together and I would do some teaching while helping people out with their own photos. Then, we would also usually end up here at night to have a nightcap before bed.
As you can see, this isn’t exactly the sharpest photo in the world, but I still think it’s cool. The shutter was plenty fast enough at 1/250th of a second, but I had to get the ISO up super high to 12800. That’s why you see all the grain. It’s not the end of the world, and most non-photographers would even notice… I probably should not have even pointed it out!
Man, you see all kinds of stuff at the Biennale in Venice. I was up on the bridge taking photos and there was a huge party happening nearby… out of nowhere, this gal came floating along in this outfit then just rocked into the party. She really knew how to make an entrance! 🙂
Here’s a favorite photo from my time in Venice… I think it’s almost impossible to take a bad photo of a gondola. In fact, even people that are brand new to photography can’t even take a bad photo of one. I still have a ton I haven’t gotten through yet, but I’ll be processing even more soon!
Here’s one of my favorite photos just outside my hotel in Venice. I stayed here for about three weeks, so it was quite a long time to be returning to the same place every night. After about two weeks, I finally memorized most of the streets and would no longer get lost. This was the view that awaited me every night upon my return home… I took this one with the Hasselblad.
You know, as much as I make fun of the Hasselblad, I’m very happy with how some of the shots come out. I still do quite a bit of post-processing using Aurora and other tools, but, I have to admit… shooting in Venice at F/22 has its upside. Maybe I will try the Hasselblad again… (tents his fingers like Mr. Burns…)
