I shared a similar shot from this location in Rome recently, commenting on the ceiling. It was pretty spectacular. It was more of an upward looking shot though, and didn’t show the full grandeur of the place. As you can see from this version the architect/designers went absolutely wild with decoration. An amazing room to explore with so much to take in.
If you go visit The Vatican, I recommend that you get the private tour. I went there with my family, and it was just us and the tour guide. We got to skip the whole line to get in, and our tour guide was incredibly knowledgable. I even went to Catholic (Jesuit) school for four years, was saddled with four years of Theology and another four years of Latin, and she was telling me all kinds of stuff I had never heard about!

I wasn’t allowed to bring my tripod inside, so I had to try to be steady-freddy handheld! It makes it a little easier holding the Sony A7r Mark II because of the sensor-stabilization. I can shoot handheld as slow as 1/5 of a second and still get a steady shot! It’s quite incredible actually…
