Daily Photo – Colossus by the Sand-Ocean… again

Let’s try this again… will it appear today? Who knows, not me… take it away WordPress gods!

I go to Burning Man every year to refresh, recharge, and get inspired by the sheer randomness and light of it all. It’s the one place you go where you have no idea what you’re going to see, but you know it’s going to be awesome and interesting.

Fun with Filters

Daily Photo – Fun with Filters

Thinking back, I probably used NiK Tools for this image from Burning Man. I had a lot of fun with those but drifted away from the software. Maybe it’s time to dip back in and see how it has evolved…

Inside the Trap

Daily Photo – Inside the Trap

I’ve shared images from this place before, but only the outside, I think. It was a whole church like structure that some crazy art people managed to build in the desert, and it was set up like a mouse trap, balanced on a stick, tilted on one end like it could come slamming down at any time. Here’s what the inside looked like. Such a cool ceiling installation.

Exploring Utah

Daily Photo – Exploring Utah

I had an awesome time driving through Utah back in 2013. I had a few key destinations mapped out but other than that it was loads of exploring and seeing what caught my attention along the way. This was one of the amazing rock structures I stumbled across.

The Long and Not So Winding Road

Daily Photo – The Long and Not So Winding Road

This is something I don’t see so much nowadays, living on the South Island of NZ. The geography around Queenstown and the alps just doesn’t allow it, so it’s a nice change when I’m in the US to grab shots like this. (This one really did go on for ages, even with the zoom lens compression it’s a distance!)

A View on the Way to Burning Man

Daily Photo – A View on the Way to Burning Man

The trek to Burning Man is always an adventure. Before we had our own RV that we store in Reno, I would rent an RV from somewhere around the country and drive in. I think during that week, there are like 50,000 RVs rented and it’s usually cheaper to get them somewhere else and make the journey. I plan it all out so there are some cool photo stops along the way. This one is from Sedona, Arizona.

Road Shots in Arizona

Daily Photo – Road Shots in Arizona

It’s sort of an obvious idea, but there is nothing wrong with obvious if it works! Anyway, the idea is whenever you have a cool road heading into a vista, why not include the road? Now, after having said that, you do have a few options. You can center the whole thing, but I usually only do that if the backdrop is equally weighted. In this case, since the coolest mountain feature is on the left, I oriented the road heading off a bit to the right to bring some balance to the scene. I believe (but I’m not sure) that this is one of the roads around Sedona, Arizona.

Long Roads in Utah

Jim Carrey Video

If you haven’t seen this one… it’s great!

Daily Photo – Long Roads in Utah

I had one of my best road trips in Utah a few years ago. I had never visited the state before, so I got an RV and made treks back and forth across the whole thing. I was really impressed with all the diversity and serenity there. I was constantly worried that my RV was gonna break down and I’d be stuck in the middle of the desert for days. I mean, I wasn’t THAT worried about it, but I often found myself doing scenario-planning, just in case.
