Chinese Junkship in Hong Kong

Daily Photo – Chinese Junkship in Hong Kong

I rode on one of these ships back and forth across the harbor about four times one night. On the final journey, about 1 AM, I decided to get a photo of the boat itself. Like a bunch of Chinese things, this is also kind of fake because the boat actually used a motor instead of the sails. They were just for show. I should not have told you that because it kind of ruins the photo, but, well, there ya go.

Te Arai in the Evening Light

Daily Photo – Te Arai in the Evening Light

Here’s a photo from my road trip around the North Island of New Zealand. This is one of the coolest golf courses in the world called Tara Iti. It runs right along the beach and when the sun gets low, you get some pretty incredible shadows along the fairways. I like shooting on golf courses, but I don’t always like making it obvious it’s a golf course. I like the idea that it’s a beautiful place that’s just convenient for playing golf if you want to.

Wolf Attack

Daily Photo – Wolf Attack

This is one of the many cool sculptures at The Hills country club in Arrowtown. The guy that owns it is Michael Hill, who also owns one of my prints and hangs it in his home here which is located on the golf course.

Hong Kong Party

Daily Photo – Hong Kong Party

This was taken on our first night in Hong Kong when they threw a big party for my team at the Ritz-Carlton there. It was the beginning of our Asia-Pacific leg of the photo walk world tour and all the wonderful ladies from that location put together a really nice soiree there in the bar on top of the hotel. The funny thing was, they did it right at sunset, so I kept leaving the party for 5-10 minute stints to go take photos!

Rainstorm in Shanghai

Daily Photo – Rainstorm in Shanghai

The Pudong area of Shanghai is pretty much completely empty at night. No one lives here, so it’s a great time to go out and take photos. I was staying in the Ritz-Carlton there at the top of the hotel on the right. It was a great place to base myself because I could easily pop down to go walk around and see all the incredible Blade-Runner buildings.

I’d often have the BEST time walking around by myself, listening to music, and usually have a Gin & Tonic cocktail in my water bottle. This is back when I used to drink (I don’t any more after an Ibogaine ceremony) – but, I must admit, I certainly had a great time on these solo nights.

On the Way to Haast

Daily Photo – On the Way to Haast

How beautiful is the West Coast of New Zealand? It’s foggy and moody and full of mystique. I absolutely love it there. This makes me want to do more road trips all over the South Island… I’ll try to do a few a year! Next time, I think I want to get a little more drone action going because the views from up high are even more spectacular.

Kyoto Closing up Shop at Night…

Daily Photo – Kyoto Closing up Shop at Night…

I was walking up and down the tiny streets one night, getting snacks and sake in different places while taking photos. Most of the places there are quite tiny, as you can see here in this image. Everyone is super friendly and it’s easy to make friends, especially because the Japanese people are some of the nicest people in the world!

Mitre Peak in Evening Light

Daily Photo – Mitre Peak in Evening Light

Here’s another one of the images from my 1000 Stories from 1000 Places NFT drop. It sold out in minutes, but they are now available to trade on OpenSea and X2Y2, etc so be sure to check them out.

Choppy made a stop at the airport in Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) to re-fuel the helicopter so we could keep the flight going longer. It was a super-long day of flying with nearly five hours in the air. I’m not sure how much fuel a helicopter can hold, but we were flying pretty hard so probably about three hours worth… By hard flying, we actually had two helicopters up, one equipped with an awesome externally mounted cinema camera, as we were flying from location to location working on a video project.

Beautiful Shapes in Beijing

Daily Photo – Beautiful Shapes in Beijing

There’s something interesting about some of the buildings throughout China and here in Beijing, especially. They have some of the craziest and most interesting architecture in the world, and the vast majority of it comes from Western architects. The Chinese educational system has lacked an emphasis (in the past) on the creative arts, so there was a dearth of innovative architects for many generations. But some city planners decided to make statements by bringing in Western architects that were really able to experiment.

The Last Landing

Daily Photo – The Last Landing

I was with my friend Ben and his family… they were loving the trip around NZ for sure. I got this photo of Ben as he was walking along the beach… it was a windy and wild day and the waves were super intense. In fact, when we got back in the helicopter, a huge wave came and washed up under the chopper!
