An Island Grave

Daily Photo – An Island Grave

See that little island over on the left of this image in the middle of the loch, it’s the location of a grave. Something I noticed when flying my quadcopter around the area. It made me wonder… do you get put there because you’re loved, or because you’re so feared that people don’t want you anywhere near them. Trapping your spirit there where it can’t escape and cause havoc. Maybe it’s either…

Not All Sunshine and Rainbows

Daily Photo – Not All Sunshine and Rainbows

While the majority of my time in Scotland was filled with amazing weather… sometimes too hot with few clouds, there was the occasional glimpse of the traditional Scottish summer. Such as on this hike where we got a good soaking as the storm rolled in from the right. It was rather welcome.

Soothing Stream

Daily Photo – Soothing Stream

Ok, so technically this is a river, but it was the middle of a heatwave, and the water was quite low. Either way my feet felt very much in need of some light relief, so off with the socks and shoes it was before I took a little paddle in the lovely cool, clear water. So soothing. Also, see the bridge just around the bend, that’s a foot bridge, beneath it is something you rarely find nowadays, a ford for wheel-based traffic to cross through the water. I thought it might be a good idea to wander in there and it WAS NOT. The stones were soooo smooth, like ice, which made for quite a treacherous few moments as I tried to retrace my steps.

Heli Camp

Daily Photo – Heli Hike

Here’s a new one from Wanaka, which is about an hour north of me here in New Zealand. I took this from a helicopter as I was flying over there to camp with some friends. I know, fancy right? I don’t often go camping, but when I do, I only arrive by helicopter. Just kidding… it was a special occasion, and the camping was incredible… nothing like wandering out nude and wading into that beautiful lake… it’s the best bath in the world. Even though I don’t particularly like cold water. I’m trying to get used to it!

Walking the Fairy Pools

Daily Photo – Walking the Fairy Pools

Where Allt Coir’ a’ Mhadaidh turns into the River Brittle you find the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye. It’s a series of hugely varied waterfalls and their associated pools which carve their way down through Glen Brittle towards the sea. The water is an amazing blue/green color, most of the way, picking up darker tones in the more deep and shadowed areas. Well worth a visit, even when conditions are not ideal as it makes for a “refreshing” hike… or swim if you’re so inclined.

Dolphin Fun

Daily Photo – Dolphin Fun

It’s always fun to see how much dolphins love boats. I’ve lost count now of how often I’ve been on the water only to look down and there they are frolicking alongside. I wonder what it is that they love so much… is it the feel of the waves created by the boat? Some sort of race? Maybe fish get scattered which they then go to feed on..?

More Fun with AI

Daily Photo – More Fun with AI

A few weeks ago I shared a different version of this image. Why share it again? It’s an interesting example of how AI in art is progressing. In this case I expanded the canvas and had the AI fill in the newly created blanks… rather successful I’d say! Can’t wait to see how it continues to evolve.

Glen Orchy… Not Glenorchy

Daily Photo – Glen Orchy… Not Glenorchy

One of the things that interested me about going to Scotland is how it might compare/contrast with New Zealand. Here’s just one fun little example of a tie between the two places. Those of you who are long time visitors of the blog will be familiar with some of my images from Glenorchy down towards the end of Lake Wakatipu. Well, turns out there is a Glen Orchy in Scotland and within that is a cool set of waterfalls where the River Orchy has worn the rock into all sorts of fascinating shapes and mini canyons like the ones below.
