Schoolkids at the Village Party

Daily Photo – Schoolkids at the Village Party

While in Zimbabwe, we were treated to a cool celebration and party at the local village. These two came out and they recited some poetry for us. I thought they had super-expressive faces so I quickly grabbed this photo.

Elephants Marching Across Zimbabwe

Daily Photo – Elephants Marching Across Zimbabwe

This photo is made from about four different photos. I couldn’t quite get the exact photo I wanted at the resolution I desired with a single shot, so I zoomed in to get a variety of shots to stitch together later. If you zoom in to the full resolution, you’ll be able to see all the cool detail on those amazing elephants.

Mom and Baby Elephant

Travel Photography Tutorial

If you haven’t gotten my New Tutorial, which is currently on sale, then you’re really missing out! Here’s a trailer for it:

Daily Photo – Mom and Baby Elephant

I don’t know if that’s a mom or dad. I’m just assuming it’s a mom because, if I were a baby, I’d feel like my mom is more likely to take care of me while dad is off rolling around in some mud pit with his friends. You can see some of this footage in the video above!

Our pad in Zimbabwe

Dr. Rosalind Watts –
PSYCHEDELIC MEDICINE: HOW DMT & LSD TREAT ADDICTION & ANXIETY

Here’s a great episode where you can get to know more about the good doctor here and the kind of amazing research she’s been spearheading at Imperial College London.

Daily Photo – Our pad in Zimbabwe

We stayed in lots of amazing places on the recent adventure in Africa and this was one of our favorites in Zimbabwe. We stayed here for three nights and it was our home base for heading off to visit the rare white rhinos. We do photography lessons almost every day, and this is one of the “interior architecture” photo days!

Unhorny White Rhino

Daily Photo – Unhorny White Rhino

It’s very rare to see white rhinos in the wild, so we were pretty lucky to see them in Zimbabwe. One thing I didn’t know is that the park rangers cut off all their horns so that they are not attractive targets to poachers. Kinda sad, eh? Seeing a rhino without his horn is like seeing a giraffe without his neck!

Joseph Mina Dancing up a Storm in Zimbabwe

Daily Photo – Joseph Mina Dancing up a Storm in Zimbabwe

We went to an incredible village celebration, and, at one point, they came and grabbed Joseph Mina from our photography group. He got out there and absolutely tore it up. The crowd was going crazy and everyone, including us, was completely blown away at his moves!

Preparing for the Dance

Daily Photo – Preparing for the Dance

While in Zimbabwe, we ended up having this local dance crew come perform for us on by the river. They were all dressed up in fun costumes and they really got into the performance. This is one of the dudes who had one of the more kooky outfits on… he was actually one of the stars of the show, being the silliest one.

Machine Elf 16 – Creator of Worlds | Trey Ratcliff & Sam Wave

“Creator of Worlds” explores chaos and order and creation from nothing. The actual work is a high resolution physical installation about 75 inches across and is embedded in a wall, running in a continuous loop forever. Here’s a photo of what the art installation looks like on the wall:

Creator of Worlds

The visual art consists of mathematical fractals that are changing, growing, and being destroyed over time and then recreated from the void. A collaboration with composer Sam Wave we started with the concept of a heartbeat – the heartbeat of a mother that an infant hears in the womb. The piece demonstrates how life at all stages and throughout the course of its journey has the influence of both masculine and feminine energy guiding the entities evolution.

For us, this work at times reminded us of coral and represented life before personified life. It allows the participant to let go of thoughts and enter a more calm reality. This is the first work in the series made by Trey and Sam. You can find out more about Sam here.

Daily Photo – Happy Village Kids

On my last trip to Africa, perhaps my favorite thing was visiting this incredible village. The kids were so fun and full of life. I mean, they had only basic sustenance like food and water, but that didn’t stop them from loving life. Their clothes were all very clean and brightly colored. This was a special village celebration, so everyone wore their favorite outfits.

The Tumble

Daily Photo – The Tumble

The very “top” of a waterfall is called the crest. It makes a lot of sense, but I had to google that first. There’s a name for everything. Anyway, check out the crest on Victoria Falls, eh? It’s interesting how much green there is in there. It must be a ton of biomass. I googled a little to see what percentage of this waterfall is actually water, but came up dry.

Rene Contemplating Life

Savvy Awards

It appears I have mistakenly recently become a winner in the Savvy Awards. I’m in that list right under Elon Musk.

Daily Photo – Rene Contemplating Life

This is a rather unique area of Zimbabwe where these huge granite boulders are just kind of sitting on top of a hill. You can see Rene up there sitting on top of one while Neville and Deanie are having a G&T over on the left. We asked our guide if we would get in trouble if we rolled one of these down the hill. He said, yes, of course. But then we said, “How about if we roll two new ones up the hill in exchange?” He didn’t know what to say… but he was pretty sure it was wrong. Then we said, “Okay, how about if we roll up a new one and don’t roll down any at all?” That one really stumped him.
