Daily Photo – Facebook no.1

Continuing the roundup of top posts across my social media, here’s the top of the pile from Facebook and that platform delivers something more along the lines of what I expected, a shot from Scotland. It’s not one of my top 5 that I most like, but hey, that’s ok. I guess people really like fairytale like castles from the far northeast coast. 🙂

Number 3

Daily Photo – Number 3

I thought it’d be fun to go through what turned out to be my top content on social media for the year and that continues today. Mainly I’ll focus on Instagram but I’ll drop in a few others towards the end as when they get traction (e.g. Flickr) the stats go crazy. So, here’s number 3 in my most viewed posts of 2023… does that make them the BEST? Not so sure, but for whatever reason they connected with people, or the algorithm!

This was one of the first images I took in Scotland (finally I made it to Scotland, and it was WONDERFUL)… certainly it was the first I processed and shared and the reach was pretty massive. It was also confusing as I’d made a pretty low effort post, no hashtags, no location tags, nothing. Just a pic and a bit of text and BAM loads of interaction across socials.

Where the Waters Meet

Daily Photo – Where the Waters Meet

This is the rather awesome freshwater Loch Coruisk (right) on Skye which drains into the saltwater Loch na Cuilce via what must be one of the shortest rivers around, Scavaig River, at only a few hundred meters long.

Back a Bit

Daily Photo – Back a Bit

Here’s an alternate version of a shot from last week, this time a bit wider and a bit further back. So many options with a quadcopter and each interesting in their own right.

Weird Observation

Daily Photo – Weird Observation

For someone who doesn’t really golf, I seem to spend a strange amount of time at golf courses. Here’s another, from a Links course in Scotland. And if you’re going to golf there, why not do so via helicopter transfer! (Which I didn’t… because I wasn’t golfing…)

Across the Loch

Daily Photo – Across the Loch

An alternate view of Carrol Rock (and the surrounding hills) to the one I posted the other day. I used the Air 2S for this one. It’s got a lovely 1inch sensor despite being pretty compact. A great mix.

Exploring Ideas

Daily Photo – Exploring Ideas

Another shot (option) from the whisky project. It’s always good to give a decent number of images, some of which you know probably won’t be chosen but might push the thinking of the client a little in ways they didn’t expect. Here is one of those. The texture is important but that’s a story for another day…

Progress…

Daily Photo – Progress…

Some of you may remember that one of the main reasons I was in Scotland earlier in the year was to work on a project with Diageo/Brora and Sotheby’s. That’s been slowly ticking along in the background with the hero image now chosen that will feature on the bottles and be produced as a large format fine art print… that I can’t share yet but here’s a little image, on a lovely warm June day, from the distillery which was built back in 1819. Diageo have done a great job of sympathetically restoring and maintaining the whole distillery. So impressive to explore.

Carrol Rock

Daily Photo – Carrol Rock

Up, not far from the coast, in northeastern Scotland, this is Carrol Rock. Normally you’d be able to see right out to sea from this vantage point, but it was a day filled with passing storms, so instead you can see one of those in the distance, as the sun burst through in the foreground.

Advancements in HDR

If you’ve missed it, Adobe has now brought “real” HDR to image processing, taking it past the tone-mapping that we’re all used to. (Think of this version of HDR more like the HDR you see when watching content on Netflix/Prime, etc where you need a HDR display to properly see it.) Check out their blog entry explaining it all over here.
