Tane Versus the Durian

Radio Interview in Singapore

There’s sort of an “NPR” in Singapore and they sent out a nice woman to interview me while there. Here’s the interview in its entirety below!

Daily Photo – Tane Versus the Durian

It was quite rainy in Singapore while we were there, but it made for some great photos and reflections. This is the Esplanade Theater and a lot of the locals think it looks like a durian, possibly one of the worst fruits that ever evolved. This affronting fruit must have somehow stayed in the food chain thanks to monkeys or something. But, I actually know a few humans that like it. It smells so bad to most people that it is banned in hotels and airplanes.

Glenorchy Tip Video Part 3

And here’s part 3 in the series of videos from Glenorchy. This shows me editing more photos and also illustrating how different the light can be on Lake Wakatipu after only a few hours.

Daily Photo – Singapore from Above

I took this from the roof of the Ritz-Carlton on my first night after arrival. It wasn’t easy to get up there, I tell ya. It was quite assassin’s creed. I went up with security (you have to get permission) and step over all these pipes, duck under air conditioning units, slither through other pipes, and this sort of thing. But, after all that, it was worth it. I had 360 degree views of the whole city, but I think this is probably one of the best angles. I’d love to come back up here and take photos of the fireworks some time!

Some Book Suggestions For You

I don’t know if you’re more into Fiction or Non-Fiction. Personally, I alternate between the two. But I’ve recently updated my Book list over on Kit.com. I hope you find something you enjoy there! 🙂 Note that these are the top 10% of my favorite books… I won’t bother listing ones I’ve read that I think would be a waste of your time.

If you are in Singapore, don’t miss a visit to the ArtScience Museum. You can’t miss it, as it is around that central lagoon. It’s very family-friendly and there are very interesting visual displays inside. I have a bit of an “issue” with some of these Instagram-roadside-bingo collection points. Instagrammers love to go here to fuel their egocentric lives, but I decided to go anyway because it looked pretty awesome! As you can tell, I did not do a selfie here. Maybe it’s because I can’t find an “Influencer Hat” that fits my cabeza in the right proportions… but I was with my new friend @Dotzsoh and she struck a better silhouette than yours truly.

Singapore Flower Party

New Tip Video!

Here’s a “making” of video from a shot during a beautiful pink sunset in Milford Sound. You can also see a bit about my organization and selection style.

Here’s the final photo that was produced above:

Daily Photo – Singapore Flower Party

These beautiful flowers light up every night in an amazing LED and music show. The music is a little campy for my tastes with the Jurassic Park theme song and such, but it is still worth it. I tried a few different positions up on the hillside during the show, but this was one of my favorites. I used my 16-35mm on the Sony for this one. It was just barely wide enough!

Singapore from Across the Pond

Singapore Tip

If you connect in Singapore and you have more than 5 hours, be sure to leave the airport and explore the city! You don’t need a Visa from most countries and it’s really easy to jump into a taxi and head down into this area to check things out! I highly, highly recommend it!

I took this photo up in the club lounge area of the Ritz-Carlton, where I stayed just for one night on my way to the USA. What a pretty view, eh? I’ve gotta get back here with more time soon. After I took this, I went down and had a fabulous dinner before heading out into the night to take even more photos!

Daily Photo – Amazing Indoor Waterfalls

Here’s another crazy place in Singapore that I totally didn’t expect. The outside was amazing enough, but then I decided to go inside. Amazing! And you can probably see all those little paths up there… you can just wander around and see this incredible indoor rainforest.

Awesome Singapore

I want to go back and spend more time here for sure… Now that I live in New Zealand, whenever I go to Europe, it’s just as easy to stop here as it is Dubai. So I’ll see if I can make more time here next time… maybe have a photowalk or som

Daily Photo – Ten Hours in Singapore

I connected in Singapore on the way from Vietnam back home to New Zealand, so of course I had to go out and shoot! I grabbed a taxi immediately and then headed to the hot zone down here! I haven’t been here since they added all this crazy-awesome stuff… I was taking non-stop photos. In this part, I’m way up high on this sky bridge between electric trees.
