One of my favorite things to do in NZ has been to explore the various Sounds, in this case I think it was Milford Sound. Always epic.
When we were out in Doubtful Sound for a few days on a boat the afternoons and evenings were filled with activity and fun but it is the mornings, like this one, and their near silence which really stuck with me. Just the soft sound of the water against the hull of the boat, the distant falls and nothing else…

I lived on a boat out here for about a week and it was totally magical. I was a photo-taking machine, of course. My favorite times were early mornings like this when all the clouds would come in and make everything feel extra-moody.

I did a fun overnight trip with Real Journeys into Doubtful Sound. It’s a very difficult fjord to reach because you have to take a series of smaller boats and a bus to actually reach the destination. But, once there, it’s really nice! You’re on a boat with about 30 people or so and you end up eat and sleep on the boat for one evening. The weather was absolutely terrible when we were there, but it did clear up for a few moody shots like this.
