I thought it’d be fun to go through what turned out to be my top content on social media for the year and that continues today. Mainly I’ll focus on Instagram but I’ll drop in a few others towards the end as when they get traction (e.g. Flickr) the stats go crazy. So, here’s number 3 in my most viewed posts of 2023… does that make them the BEST? Not so sure, but for whatever reason they connected with people, or the algorithm!

This was one of the first images I took in Scotland (finally I made it to Scotland, and it was WONDERFUL)… certainly it was the first I processed and shared and the reach was pretty massive. It was also confusing as I’d made a pretty low effort post, no hashtags, no location tags, nothing. Just a pic and a bit of text and BAM loads of interaction across socials.

Whenever I’m out on an assignment I always try to capture some varied shots that the client probably won’t choose. It’s always good to give them options though, and maybe force them to think about what they actually like/want. This is one such shot and is entirely different to the final selection that was made.

It’s always good to give a decent number of images, some of which you know probably won’t be chosen but might push the thinking of the client a little in ways they didn’t expect. Some of you may remember that one of the main reasons I was in Scotland earlier in the year was to work on a project with Diageo/Brora and Sotheby’s. That’s been slowly ticking along in the background with the hero image now chosen that will feature on the bottles and be produced as a large format fine art print… that I can’t share yet but here’s a little image, on a lovely warm June day, from the distillery which was built back in 1819. Diageo have done a great job of sympathetically restoring and maintaining the whole distillery. So impressive to explore.
