Free Tutorial through the end of March

On most days I'm editing photos in my studio, so I thought why not broadcast it live? It's something new and fun I'm trying. Let me know if you like it and we'll do some more. I recorded the broadcast but it's only going to be available through the end of March. You have to watch soon or it will be gone forever. Sorta like dropping your keys in hot lava - if that happens...man they're gone!

Save 40% on my Landscape Tutorial

We're also running a special offer on my Landscape Tutorial which covers all of the techniques in far more depth. Now through the end of March you can get the tutorial for $47. That's 40% off the normal price. Buy Now

Improve your Photos through Critiques

One of the very best ways to learn how to improve your photography is by having your photos critiqued by a Master or by watching others have their photos critiqued. The video below is from The Arcanum, where we did a live critique of photos from several Apprentices. You will get to hear a variety of perspectives and feedback from myself and other Masters.

I could watch these critiques all day! They're so interesting and insightful. I learn from other Masters each time I watch one. The Arcanum Grand Library contains hundreds of tutorial videos and recorded critiques on a wide variety of genres. Find out more about the Grand Library and how to subscribe.

Have you applied to The Arcanum yet?

Things are moving quickly in The Arcanum. We have many new Masters coming on board in a variety of different focus areas. They're actively looking for new Apprentices, perhaps they'll pick you! If you're interested in anything from Aerial photography to Mobile to Wildlife, and anything in between, then you should apply today. Follow these tips for completing your application and it's likely you'll be selected soon.

Photo Fashion Party!

I was really confused when my friend Connie from VIDA approached me with this idea! I couldn’t figure out what the heck she was talking about, but then I saw some samples... wow! Their team has taken a selection of photos and abstracted them into these very nice looks. I got a few scarves and gave them to my mom... she loves them! They have more options from other artists too, including my friend Karen Hutton.

Just a few spots left in our Photography, Hiking, Yoga mash-up!

I wanted to try something new, and I hope you're keen for it. Besides photography, I'm also quite into yoga and this sort of thing. Just down the road from my home in Queenstown is an amazing yoga / hiking retreat called Aro Hā. We partnered with them to bring you an awesome week of photos and fitness!

So, you're not into hardcore yoga? Well, me neither! No worries... the focus of the trip is still photography. We will be taking tons of photos in a variety of locations and situations. There will be plenty of teaching time from composition to post-processing. We'll have lots of "downtime" together back at this retreat where we can get our yoga on (led by the world's best yoga teachers), have great food (made by a brilliant team of chefs who grow all their own food), spa time and more!

What Camera Gear and Software do I use?

By far the most common question I am asked is what camera gear I use and what software I use for post processing. For my cameras, I use Sony almost exclusively now and I mix in some Leica lens as well. You can find all of the details on my Camera Equipment page plus my Leica Lens Buying guide.

As for software, I use a wide variety of software packages from various vendors depending on the photo and how the muse leads me. You can see a fairly complete list on the Photo Software page along with links to my reviews. My "go to" tools are of course Photomatix, Lightoom and Photoshop, but I now use some really cool photo software from OnOne and Macphun on a daily basis.

Macphun

Macphun is cranking out some great new tools lately. I particularly like their Intensify and Tonality products. You can read my full review and see sample photos on my blog. They just released a very cool product called Focus Pro. I haven't had much time to play with it by it looks pretty awesome. I believe they have a promotion through the end of March to save 25%.

OnOne Perfect Photo Suite

I've used OnOne Software for quite some time and their stuff just keeps getting better. You can read my full review of OnOne on my blog.

I've been testing a preview of their upcoming release of Perfect Photo Suite v9.5. They made some great enhancements to this slick tool called Perfect Browse that I've enjoyed. I can't say much more now but look for my review to be released soon.
