Prime Tane

My personal assistant, Tane Gent, joined our team about 18 months ago. He's been with me on a ton of amazing adventures, I think he's visited about 20+ countries with me already! Well now he's headed on an adventure of his own to the USA and we're wishing him all the best! Here's a little video we made of Tane having fun while we were in Osaka, Japan. is a personal blog where Trey puts up a new unique photo every day and writes about the art, the technology, and the story of the adventures. Actually, this is Trey writing about this in third person. Both Trey and I appreciate your support very much!

Reminder: The Text HDR Tutorial is Always Free!

I keep a completely FREE HDR Tutorial on my website. It is a living document that continues to evolve over the years. It goes over everything you need to get started and is a great introduction to the basics of HDR photography and post processing.

Some recent images for the blog

Tane looks cute at any F-Stop, so he's probably not an ideal person for testing this lens. If you can possibly avert your eyes, look at the background. I know, it's tough, but do it for the sake of lens testing. Look at that amazing blurry area back there. In fact, if you look at his ears, even they are out of focus.

Here's our assistant Tane, fresh after shaving his head on the road. The next day we happened to visit the Federal Mosque and we had to wear robes. I thought the whole thing looked like a bit of a timeless scene. And even though I asked Tane to stand there for a photo, I did not expect our friend Liz (@YoungAdventuress) to come sauntering along from the right side. I thought it all made for a nice photo.

That's Tane, my assistant in the front left. Then Olya is on the right, our crazy Russian videographer. They are both kind of like models, so I take a lot of photos of them looking wistfully in various directions. In the back is Seth, our other videographer! I took this in Budapest right before the Hans Zimmer concert.

Thursday mornings are trash days here in our neighborhood. I have given this job to Ethan, but he usually needs a bit of help because it's about a 5-minute walk with multiple trash bins out to the main road. Anyway, I was getting the whole routine going when I saw this hot air balloon lifting up right behind my house. So I quickly abandoned trash duty to go grab my camera!

I've made the flight back and forth to Auckland probably 20 times now. It's a beautiful 1.5 hour flight where you get to sail across the top of New Zealand. About half of the way, you only see ocean, but it can make for some amazing clouds as they form on the coast. We get a warm wet wind that blows in from Australia across the Tasman Sea. When it collides with the NZ coastline, you get all kinds of fancy clouds like this.

Not far from an area of downtown Sydney called “The Rocks”, which I believe is the oldest area of the city, is a sidewalk where you can walk underneath this bridge. This was a three-exposure HDR that I took probably about five years ago. I've been going back and editing some older photos that I never had the chance to edit. I was happy the clouds looked so moody this night. The way they pick up and reflect the city nights feels like it's out of a movie or something.

I swear, all these wolves do is think about attacking that samurai. Every time I come here, it's always the same situation. It must be incredibly frustrating to be so fixated on something and not be able to make it happen. I should tell them that Buddha says that desire is the root of all suffering.
