80 Stays Japan Recap!

The more and more I go to Japan, the more and more I like it. I'm happy and zen any place, but, well, maybe it's a little easier there. I hate to pick favorites, but I'd say my two favorite countries (not just for photography, but just to be "in") are New Zealand and Japan. The people in Japan are so wonderful. They are primarily concerned with maintaining a harmonious relationship with strangers and friends alike. This makes for the most relaxing texture that overlays every experience there.

In this way, Japan reminds me a lot of Burning Man, in that you are surrounded by "strangers" who are looking out for your well-being. This might be really hard to understand if you've never been in this sort of environment. Maybe you are in a place where you look at strangers and you have a sneaking suspicion that they "might be out to get ya" or something. That's a lousy situation... Anyway, when strangers around you are interested in harmony, it makes it quite a bit easier to get into a creative flow. That doesn't mean all my photos from Japan are winners, but it at least sets the stage to create a few!

Want Yours Truly to Create a Masterclass?

Hey, if I may be so bold, can I ask you to fill out a survey that is asking about your favorite photographers to teach a Masterclass? I think it would be an absolute blast to make one of these in LA. I watched several of them already including Hans Zimmer, Werner Herzog, and Martin Scorsese. All of them are incredible. If you are interested in finding out more, head over to the website by clicking this link.
