2100+ km and counting

Our adventure continues! Since our inaugural Photo Walk in Lisbon, we've now traveled over 2100 km (1300 miles) and completed two more fantastic Photo Walks in Barcelona, Spain and Milan, Italy. I've been posting tons of photos from each city, plus my favorite picks from all of the people that come to the Photo Walks on the new 80stays Instagram account.

Local prize winners plus how YOU can WIN too!

After each Photo Walk Trey selects a few of his favorite photos to win prizes from The Ritz-Carlton, Macphun and our own SIC Passport. Check out the prize winners so far from the Lisbon and Barcelona Photo Walks.

Remember, if you can't make it person, you can still win more than $10,0000 in prizes including an all-expenses-paid trip to my workshop in Queenstown courtesy of Air New Zealand and passes to more than 1,000 European cities from FlixBus. Check our website for all of the contest details!

Power to the people!

What makes a Photo Walk great is the people. Subtract them and it's just me walking around mumbling to myself — which ain't all bad — but it's a lot more fun with new friends! At the start of each Photo Walk we do a quick Facebook Live broadcast so you can meet some of the friendly people.

So many countries! In the pre-walk video from Barcelona, we met people from Romania, Columbia, Bulgaria, India, Russia, Bolivia, Spain (of course), and lots of other places. All converging to take photos together. It's amazing! Check out the Milan pre-party below.

Visiting my HDR Roots in Milan

Every Photo Walk is unique. You'll find the cool, the weird, and the funny, all right alongside the awe-inspiring and soul-changing. The Barcelona Photo Walk was replete with super yachts, a funky street band playing Superstition, bubbles, dogs, and Curtis left high-five hanging by a 5-year old. And below, we get to experience Milan's "living room" while I dispense some ad hoc advice about dealing with crowds in a photo. This was a particularly special Photo Walk for me because it ended at the Duomo, the very place I started taking my first HDR shots!

We had a Nice diversion on the way to Milan. (Sorry. Had to.) There I chatted with besties Rene and Tane as we walked near the beach in Nice, France, and took in the scenery. Plus, we got to ask the unexpected but necessary question: Has my mom acquired some skills from the Mafia? I've already said enough. Check it out.

Paris in Springtime

Our Paris Photo Walk is TODAY (7 May). That's also Election Day in France. Who knows what will happen? I don't know, but I know it's going to be interesting. Visit the #80stays website to get the latest details on the Paris Photo Walk. And if you can't be there in person, definitely tune into our Facebook Live broadcast around the time of the walk. is a personal blog where Trey puts up a new unique photo every day and writes about the art, the technology, and the story of the adventures. Actually, this is Trey writing about this in third person. Both Trey and I appreciate your support very much!

I keep a completely FREE HDR Tutorial on my website. It is a living document that continues to evolve over the years. It goes over everything you need to get started and is a great introduction to the basics of HDR photography and post processing.

Here are some of my favorite photos from Spain, France, and Italy

The last stop before Milan
This is our last stop before the Milan photo walk! Thanks again everyone who recommended Cinque Terre - what a beautiful part of Italy. It was my first time here, and I enthusiastically took a ton of photos. The weather turned a little crazy last night with a major downpour... this is the final shot I got before it got too intense and I had to get my camera into the safety of my bag! After this, we caught the train to the bus to roll overnight to Milan.
Photo Crazy
Okay, as you can tell, I went a little PHOTO CRAZY in Barcelona... I still have so many to process, but I thought this one was maybe one of my favorites. After a while taking photos in here, I got a little dizzy! I love shooting with this Hasselblad X1D, but I wish it had a flip-down screen. Getting in that strange position to look up through a camera on a tripod is always a bit tough on my neck!
The French Riviera
We stopped along the Azure Coast in the French Riviera in Nice for a brunch with mimosas on the roof of this beautiful terrace. One thing is consistent with every place the crew is going - we always have all our laptops out on the table... this is one of those very squinty places where you can barely figure out what's on the screen. If you ever see four dudes with their laptops open having mimosas, it's probably us. We really own it though. If you zoom in, you can see Rene, Curtis, and Tane staring at their phones!
The end of the Barcelona Photo Walk
What a great photo walk in Barcelona, Spain. We ended here at Hotel Arts Barcelona (another great The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company property) where we went up to the roof for my little art-talk and Q&A session. Thanks a lot everyone for coming out... great crowd and so many good questions!
Orange Towers
Right before we left Barcelona, we went to this beautiful mountaintop called "Tibidabo" where these amazing towers look over all of the city below.
La Sagrada Familia
If you see my little "Coming to Milan" video on Facebook, you'll notice this as the same background in La Sagrada Familia. This spot is actually quite high up and I was taken up to the same area the Pope goes to! It was totally radical up here and there is a little secret passageway that goes all around the top level up here... very high and kind of scary!
Bubble Man
Kids playing with bubbles along the seaside in Barcelona. I love these bubble guys... I see them in public squares all around here, and it's always a big hit with the kiddos!
