A beautiful photo walk in Lisbon and nine more to go!
Thanks for a huge start to the photo walks all my new Portuguese friends! It was a wildcard to choose Portugal to begin - but a great one! You guys are awesome :) To see behind-the-scenes shots, some of my own photos (these are some of my random shots that don't make it to my main Instagram account), and my favorite picks from all of the people that come to the Photo Walks, please follow our new 80stays Instagram account.
We did a few of Facebook Live segments at the walk. Here's one of them! :)
In part one, we mix and mingle with pre-party peeps and Curtis gives us a very quick look inside the incredible, double-decker, #80Stays tour bus. (Special thanks to our sponsors Ritz-Carlton, Air New Zealand, and FlixBus.)
Part two is a good example of what goes on at one of our Photo Walks. Shot in classic embedded-war-reporter style, you'll meet a few of the Photo Walkers as I lead the group through the route. We stop a few times to take photos and talk about why that spot is a good one, my camera settings, composition, lighting, and lots of other things that help make a great photo.
Next Up: Barcelona!
We wanted to stay longer in Portugal but this bus waits for no man. After Lisbon and a 12-hour visit to Porto, it was back on the bus and onward to Barcelona. Here's a quick Facebook Live video on the way, shot roadside just outside of Madrid. We can't say enough great things about this bus! So why not hear about our bus from our driver, Swedish Chris! He's driven Journey, Pink, Foreigner, and he's now hit rock-bottom with us.
The Barcelona Photo Walk is this Friday night (April 28)! Like every Photo Walk on the tour, it's a FREE, family-friendly, super-fun event. And bring any camera you want. Svelte mobile phone. Husky DSLR. Any of them will work fine. AND... we have a few tickets left to the after party where you get to relax and spend some time with me, my team and fellow Photo Walkers. I will be also giving a little art talk at some point during the night.
The 20-Off-Before-Milan Sale
I love Photo Walks because they bring together photographers of all levels and everyone walks away having learned something. And there is always more to learn! I asked the team to set up a special discount for the latest photography tutorial. For a limited time—until next week's Milan Photo Walk—you can use the discount code 80STAYSMILAN to save 20% off the tutorial in the store.
You'll also get all my RAW files AND two bonus lessons that talk about people photography and extreme HDR situations. I think you’ll love them! It’s honestly the highest-quality set of tutorials we’ve ever made.
StuckInCustoms.com is a personal blog where Trey puts up a new unique photo every day and writes about the art, the technology, and the story of the adventures. Actually, this is Trey writing about this in third person. Both Trey and I appreciate your support very much!
If you think your family or friends might like this Newsletter (subscribe for free), please forward this to them. It'll make a fun email chain!
Reminder: The Text HDR Tutorial is Always Free!
I keep a completely FREE HDR Tutorial on my website. It is a living document that continues to evolve over the years. It goes over everything you need to get started and is a great introduction to the basics of HDR photography and post processing.

Here are some of my favorite photos from Portugal
Stations of the crotch
Taking the photos of this palace was not so easy! Here's a behind-the-scenes photo of the crew... we call this position: "Stations of the crotch" - we did have a great time walking around the grounds and trying to find good angles.
Santa Justa Lift
This is the famous old elevator in Lisbon, Portugal that we saw a few nights ago. It’s called the Santa Justa Lift and connects the low parts of Baixa with the much higher Carmo Square. I didn’t realize how hilly it is here… like a Portuguese San Francisco!
Coffee and Pastries
After visiting the palace, we went down into the village of Sintra to have some pastries and coffee and a wander around the town. Here's a quick photo of the scene there.
During our 12 hour stop in Porto
We decided to take the tour bus up to Porto, Portugal for the day and evening. What a beautiful and amazing city! I could seriously spend a whole week here! I took about 500 photos and had some great port with new friends down here by the river.
Game of Thrones in Portugal
Here's Torre de Belem on another perfect night here in Lisbon. Believe it or not, my friend Rene Smith fell in the ocean right here! Yes, first he fell in a canal in Venice, and now into the drink here... that guy, I tell ya... somehow is camera survived this time!
