Queenstown – Stuck in Customs

Patagonia in my Hallway

Daily Photo – Patagonia in my Hallway

Since I recently converted one of my homes into an AirBnB, I decided to also make it a bit of an art gallery. I hung up about 10 photos all over the home and it was pretty fun deciding what goes where! Back in this long hallway that goes to four of the bedrooms, I decided to put up this panorama. I’m always a bit scared to get things printed because I don’t want to see any mistakes! Sometimes that happens! But, this time, it came out perfect and I’m quite happy with it.

The Inverted Remarkables

Daily Photo – The Inverted Remarkables

This is one of those fun visual tricks I like to play from time to time. I like it takes the viewer a few seconds (or more!) to figure out what exactly is going on. When you discover the trick, I think you get a little burst of dopamine, and that’s kinda fun.

Way Over Queenstown with Over The Top

Old School Parking

Check out this video from 100 years ago where they came up with this parking technique!

Daily Photo – Way Over Queenstown with Over The Top

Isn’t that a cool golf course there on the peninsula? I reckon it’s probably one of the most unique locations for a golf course in the world. I haven’t actually played there yet, but that’s mostly because I don’t get that big a kick out of golf anymore! Maybe I’ll get back into it in a few years, but for now, I just don’t find it that enjoyable.

Autumn in Queenstown Gardens

Daily Photo – Autumn in Queenstown Gardens

If you end up coming to my Queenstown Photo Workshop then you’re really gonna love this spot. It’s one of my absolute favorites, and, honestly having a workshop is a pretty good excuse for me to get out here and shoot! The colors are out of this world, and simply walking around the gardens is quite relaxing!

Atop Deer Park Heights

Can’t Trust the System

Daily Photo – Atop Deer Park Heights

Here’s a pretty view from when I took a workshop group up here one morning. The lake was like a huge mirror and perfectly still. I think we all walked around it a few times to get every possible angle. If you look over to the left, you can see, of all things, a North Korean prison. It was used for some terrible Disney movie decades ago. It’s since been demolished because people thought it was an eyesore, but I thought it was kinda cool!

Beautiful Colors of New Zealand

Laminar Flow Water

We’ll here’s something that’s bizarrely cool! And I learned it’s called Laminar Flow. (Open the vid to see it.)

Daily Photo – Beautiful Colors of New Zealand

Here is a view of the Southern Alps here in Queenstown in the middle of summer. You can see a little bit of snow on The Remarkables in the background, but it really doesn’t snow at all here in the summer. Maybe there’s an occasional swell or a cold night where a bit collects on the top of the peaks. But the mountains come alive with different colors when everything starts to grow in the Spring and Summer. There’s also a lot of great magic mushrooms that grow around here.

Machine Elf – Creator of Worlds – on the wall

Machine Elf – Creator of Worlds

The actual work is a physical installation at 75 inches across, embedded in a wall, running in a continuous loop forever (this is only the first 15 minutes).

The soundscape you hear is how a baby hears its mother’s heartbeat as it reverberates through her organs along with theta waves. There’s an even better version of that in the works, but I thought it was good enough for now. The piece explores chaos and order and creation from nothing. It is created with mathematical fractals that are changing, growing, and being destroyed over time and then recreated from the void.

And here’s a photo of what it looks like on the wall… Only making three of these, and as of the time of writing this, there is one remaining. If interested, contact fineart@treyratcliff.com.
