Passport – Stuck in Customs

Passport Member Update for Sunday!

Today, if you’re a Passport Member, I have a cool new video that shows some of my favorites that I’ve selected so far while working on a new photo project. Actually, I’ll show you some that I really like and others that I don’t like and explain why… a little self-critique time. In fact, one of them I think I hate!

Te Arai Selections so far

I’ve been taking photos at this epic golf course called Te Arai to make some prints for some members. I’m about halfway through the process but thought you would like to see the selects so far… I may make another video after I finish the next round of photos and show you where the project is at!

Daily Photo – Te Arai as the sun sets

Here’s a new photo from my road trip around the North Island of New Zealand. This is one of the coolest golf courses in the world called Tara Iti. It runs right along the beach and when the sun gets low, you get some pretty incredible shadows along the fairways. I like shooting on golf courses, but I don’t always like making it obvious it’s a golf course. I like the idea that it’s a beautiful place that’s just convenient for playing golf if you want to.

Passport Sunday Preview

If you’re a Passport Member then today you’ll get to see one of the latest creations I’m working on for Machine Elf. Yes, yes, I’m still taking photos all the time and don’t see that stopping. Plus, I have some amazing stuff that I am super excited to share soon… However, I am really enjoying working on these fractals. I find them to be completely beautiful and mesmerizing. Below is a photo of the current combination of fractals I’m working on:

Machine Elf 37 – Preview

Fresh on the heels of Machine Elf 34, which we called Master Owl, we are now onto 37. I don’t have a name for it yet… I’m starting to combine various fractal equations which are quite GPU-intensive.

Along the Lagoon

Passport Sunday How-To Video

We must be up to about 200 great how-to and behind-the-scenes videos now for Passport Members. It’s another Sunday, and here’s one I recorded just recently for you.

Working on the Lagoon Photo

I took about 300-400 photos of this lagoon at various times of the morning, day, evening, and night. It was always quite beautiful. Because so many photos came out strong, it gave me the chance to process them in a variety of ways. I think you’ll like the final treatment I gave this one…

Daily Photo – Along the Lagoon

I was recently working on an art piece and I ended up with over 100 photos that I really liked… I spent a long time working on this one, even though it ultimately ended up in my “rejects” pile. That’s okay… even though it fell into that pile, I still like it quite a bit. You can see some of the “Making Of” in today’s video.

Across the Rolling Hills in Northern New Zealand

Passport Sunday!

Today, if you’re a Passport Member, you’ll get to see a cool edit of today’s daily photo. I went a bit more extreme with this one because I was just in that kinda mood.

EDIT: Hey Passport people… sorry for the delay in this one. Something automated went wonky! The appropriate technology has been kicked and promises not to do this again!

Full Edit of the Golf Course Photo

This is a quick and simple edit. Sometimes people hear that I take 10+ hours to edit my photos and they think I do that with most of them. That’s not true… most are very quick edits like this one! Enjoy! 🙂

Daily Photo – Across the Rolling Hills in Northern New Zealand

We were lucky enough to finally have a sunny day, so we headed out into the rolling hills to see what we could find. And we found this! I decided to put an emphasis on the sun and the peaceful rolling hills.

Over the Farm

Passport Sunday!

If you’re a Passport Member then today you get to see not one, not two, not three but FOUR new quadcopter clips to inspire you that I just shot last week! Enjoy!

Over the Farm

I’ve been working hard on an art commission here in New Zealand and having the most amazing time. I do a pretty good mix of ground-based and air-based photography. In between, I capture a bit of video stuff as well. Here are four quick videos I shot while there.

The Machine Elf

Passport Sunday

I think you’re gonna love today’s video if you’re a Passport Sunday member. I usually never release things before they are finished, but today you can see something new!

Check out Machine Elf on TRIPP

Head on over to TRIPP.com to see the latest Machine Elf releases on that site in VR!

Open Heart

Here’s an early look at Machine Elf 36. It’s not finished yet… you’ll notice it cuts off at an annoying time… sorry about that. Believe it or not, this render took about 6 days on Stu’s computer! That’s 6 days of 100% GPU use on pretty much the fastest graphics card available to consumers! Sorry about that, Stu.

Passport Sunday on an Art Commission

If you’re a Passport Member, then today you’ll get to see what I packed to work on this art commission in Gisborne. I notice I pack lighter and lighter each trip as the equipment gets better and better.

See all my gear at…

My Kit.co/TreyRatcliff site. You’ll find all sorts of goodies in there.

Photo Gear Rundown!

Here’s a short video that shows all the goodies I brought with me on this trip… So far I have about 3000 videos and 2 crash landings with the quad. But it still works somehow! The blades are all messed up… I don’t know how this sad but amazing thing is still flying!

Daily Photo – An Early Quad in Morocco

Here’s one of the first sorts of quads I used, when you would attach a GoPro under the blades. There was no live video or anything, so you just had to guess! That made it kind of fun, but also completely random… This was shot in Morocco when I was working on the SmugMug films video.

In the Jungle where the Frog Poison Resides

Passport Sunday Podcast Preview

I have a new podcast that is in production now called “Molecules I’ve Ingested” that should be something quite unexpected, hilarious, and educational. Each episode features a crazy story about different molecules I’ve tried, from legal to illegal. Mostly the latter. Anyway, episode 1 is: “Amazonian Giant Monkey Frog Poison aka The Cambo Ceremony” and it’s an absolute riot. Wait till you hear what Sprinkles and I get up to. If you’re a Passport Member then you get the first listen to this as it goes into production.

Sunday: Early cut of Episode 1

Hey y’all! I think you’re gonna enjoy this. It’s not finished… what you’re about to hear is the raw recording of Episode 1. You’ll hear all my gaffs and mistakes and some behind the scene stuff. You’ll also come to appreciate Stu and all the hard work he has to do turn this into a sequence that is relatively flawless and feels right. We have some music coming and other things that will make more sense when you hear the final version. At the end of this, you’ll hear little things that we’re going to insert into the middle of the longer story. Enjoy!

Daily Photo – In the Jungle where the Frog Poison Resides

This picture really has nothing to do with the actual podcast, other than that this boy lives in a jungle. I haven’t actually seen an Amazonian Giant Monkey Frog in the wild, nor have I milked it for its poison. Also, there’s very little chance this kid has seen that particular frog since he lives in Papua New Guinea. It makes me wonder what kind of interesting molecules are in PNG.
