#354 – Stuck in Customs

#354

Daily Photo – #354 from the Edition365 2021 Exhibition.

A few months back art3.io and the British Journal of Photography got in touch about an online exhibition and auction they were putting together which focused on life during the pandemic. This is the image that I chose to submit and you can see the OpenSea listing here. I recommend checking out the whole selection as there are some awesome photos in there. Also, you can virtually view the full show in a really cool interface here.

As for the image… I had quite a strange experience just before lockdown. I went to one of my favorite meditation and yoga retreats near my home in Queenstown named Aro Ha (the Maori for love), and I had some amazing deep sessions. One of them centred around the heart and the idea of being alone or being worthy of not-being-alone. It was quite wonderful and therapeutic, and I came out of it quite excited to engage with a lot of other people and stop being such a hermit. Well, just as that tricky universe continues to throw us curveballs, lockdown came into the present scene so I was forced to be alone for even longer. It seems the cycle of being alone and together are two sides of the same coin, and you can’t have one without the other as they are a reflection of the same truth.
