Turtle Creek in Dallas

I went up to Dallas for the night because my sister was having her first baby. I got to see her for a few minutes before she had to do the feeding, farm style… so I left to go to Turtle Creek to take few shots at sunset after a jog.

This is where I used to go run all the time when I went to SMU, just down the road.

The new international terminal at DFW is very nice - filled with all sorts of shops and high-end restaurants. They also had this very interesting modern sculpture of a downtown abstract I posted below.

Monty and I waited as long as we could to get on the plane, but we never saw Will until after we got on the plane, just before roll back. It seems he transposed the 5:50 departure to 5:05. This would be a cute numerical mistake if it was not for his position as the Chief Financial Officer of the company.

The Table [historic] Methodism

I saw this wrapped van outside of Tin Star in Plano, where I ate lunch a few days ago. By the way, if you are there, get the pesto chicken soft taco thing. It goes down smooth.

Since I am a pastafarian, I am always on the lookout for hot new religions… so I was intrigued by this vehicle.

So this van had the interesting slogan “A New Kind of Church”. Furthermore, I was pulled in by the other catch-phrase on the back, “cutting-edge [historic] Methodism”. I had no idea what either of these slogans meant, but I knew it somehow involved a table and a loose connection to Tex-Mex food and the word “historic” inside optional brackets, so I decided to check it out. Here are some gems I grabbed from the website:

If we were a restaurant–and we’re not, we’re a churchâ€¦ But if we were a restaurant, our mission would be to serve quality breakfast, lunch and dinner because we’d want to offer a balance of meals for our customers. What we’re about at theTable is offering a balance of quality “spiritual meals” which help make for healthy souls, much like three appropriate meals per day help make for healthy bodies.

Jesus was challenged by one of the religious muckity-mucks to name the most important commandment from the Old Testament. My brother’s house of macabre but humorously posed dead animals

So my brother in Dallas is a big hunter. He goes on African safaris all the time and is always looking to bag something exotic, or simply something that would look funny when stuffed, mounted, and placed inconspicuously in his house.

First, you will see a picture of him with a giraffe that he killed then had stuffed and put in his foyer to welcome guests. During Christmas, he put a santa hat on top to make it look more festive for the season. He claimed that this giraffe was running around Africa eating children and spreading AIDS, so he had no choice but to shoot it.

The second picture is of a hippo he killed and had converted into a coffee table. He had the taxidermist embed a permanent smile on the hippo, so that guests would be assured that the hippo is happy to be holding their after-dinner cognacs.

Will with a gravy-boat of ranch

I just can’t go to Dallas without hanging out with Will and eating something decadant that involves him using a gravy-boat full of ranch in some sort of manner usually involving appetizer augmentation.

Super Bowl Mini-Party

Will and I are headed to Montana tomorrow, so I am crashing at his place tonight because we have a 6:30 AM flight. I went over to Will’s to pick him and his girlfriend up so we could go grab dinner and watch the super bowl. Lauren immediately jumped in the car to pose.

We took down the top and she was a bit chilly in the backseat, as you can see. Will, on the other hand, was rather deadpan.

Here is a shot of dinner… some of you guys out there may recognize this girl from the pool at Vegas, but just picture her with the left one hanging out of her bathing suit for five minutes, unbeknownst to her. Email Lauren for the full story on that one… This time what happened in Vegas did not stay in Vegas.

Ski Shopping in Dallas

Will told me about some warehouse where they sell cheap ski stuff. It’s over in the warehouse district just north of the design district. It was kind of a questionable area and I have no idea how Will found it. He just knows some of these things… he looks conservative, but he runs with the dirty underbelly of the city.

So I pulled up to this non-descript warehouse and had to drive around the back. I snapped this picture in case they found my body later, because then Monk could unravel the mystery by looking at the pictures.

Once inside, we found these Harry and Lloyd ski outfits that we ALMOST bought for the comedic splash damage.

Outside, I grabbed this fetching picture of Will and that blonde gal he runs with.

In Dallas with Will and his Paramour

I am up in Dallas for the weekend with Will while we work on some Happy Car stuff. It was nice to get out of Austin where it was 102 degrees to come up to cool Dallas where it was only 101 degrees.
