My cool Muslim cab driver
Of course the Ritz Carlton would not let a regular taxi muss their porte cochere, so they had to call me a special sedan. Anyway, I had this cool Muslim driver and we ended up talking politics the whole time. I immediately figured out he was one of the good Muslims and not one of the crazy ones. This is good, since I did not want to get to the airport early to get a bagel, and I did not want to be blown up.
He was very upset with all the crazy Muslims, giving him a bad name. In fact, he went on to say a lot of the Koran was kind of silly, and most Muslims don’t take everything in there too seriously.
We went on to talk about religions and what a sweet marketing bullet point is the “67 virgins upon death” thing. That was a great idea by the Muslim Marketing Department. The Christians and the Jews have much more boring marketing bullet points by comparison.

Assalamun Alaikum,
Unfortunately, the “cool” Muslim you met, is obviously not a practicing one. The Koran is to be taken very seriously, word for word.

A real Muslim would not criticize the Qura’an. It’s not a silly book and people who actually *read* it find it very beautiful and truthful.
I’m a practicing Muslim.. and I’m cool
and I’m also embarrassed by “Muslims” who do everything against their religion, e.g. suicide bombing, oppressing women, etc. Luckily only an extremely small percentage of them do those things and they’re often the uneducated ones, so please keep in mind that Islam is peace and anyone who does the opposite is not a true Muslim.
Islam teaches a lot of values such as: being good to neighbors, family and friends; seeking education; being generous, forgiving and honest; balancing between work and worship; and of course that there is no compulsion in religion.
Peace out
